@UK_Compounder @robprogressive I know for a fact that people turn down extra work, overtime or advancement in their role. For example favouring part time at a more senior level for same pay. That happens because people don’t want to go over £100k

Stop. Please. No one in their right mind is turning down payrises 🙄 I agree the system is rubbish. But, if you earn under £150k then just put the balance into your SIPP. Problem solved. If you earn over £150k, then you're better off taking the money and paying nursary fees. Is the system crap and unfair? Absolutely. But no one is turning down a pay rise lol... click baity BS.

Imagine turning down a pay rise because it would make you poorer… That’s exactly what happens when you start earning over £100k If you’ve got children in nursery then you’re better off earning £99,999 than £150,000 In the U.K. we literally penalise people for earning more. No wonder high earners are leaving

I quite like this for my sins, range is more than enough for most too so can’t slate it there. But 2,300kg to be able to do that!?!??! My 2017 Long Wheel Base, 5.2m long 7 Series weighed just under 2,200kg and that had a whopping great V12 under the bonnet 😬
The Intercooler@theintercoolerx

This is the new BMW 3-series. Called i3, it has 559 miles of EV range, a new record. Another new record is that at around 2300kg, it now weighs over twice as much as the E21 original.

@flyingphil79 @LUDENClassics Right model, right car, correct preventative maintenance etc etc for the really big miles. My point is just that you don’t need a new car every three years.

700,000+ miles between my two daily cars. You really don’t need a brand new car every three years.

Anyone who's my age will probably look at this and wince. However we're not the demographic BMW are appealing to anymore. Do the younger people on here like it?

@watchingferries @simonharley If you work there for 12 months or more you get BAT tax of 7%. Any shorter and its full UK tax rate. So no not quite tax free, pretty rubbish deal!

I just got a random ad for British Antarctic Survey jobs and most are £30,000–31,000k a year for South Georgia or Antarctica, which seems a bit low. Definitely low for the radio operator though (who also acts as a flight controller):

Companies House has put out a statement confirming that, for five months, every company in the UK was vulnerable to the simple exploit we identified on Friday. It enabled anyone in the world to view and change their company details.

@2147mill Also the average growth rate annualised of the S&P 500 for 2000 to 2009 was something like 1.6%. So there’s that.

@2147mill What the UK doesn’t do is leave you with enough disposable income to save that amount from a young age to make a difference. Most are barely treading water until middle age, and that will get worse with student loans costs and rising accommodation costs.

How much do you need invested to withdraw £35,000 a year and never run out of money? Probably less than you think. Start with £875,000 in a growth portfolio averaging 10% a year. Withdraw £35,000 annually. Here’s what happens. After 5 years: You’ve withdrawn £175,000 Your portfolio grows to ~£1.19M After 10 years: You’ve withdrawn £350,000 Your portfolio grows to ~£1.71M After 20 years: You’ve withdrawn £700,000 Your portfolio grows to ~£3.88M Read that again. You took £700k out… and your portfolio is now worth £3M more than when you started. That’s compounding. Eventually your money makes more than you spend. Now here’s the UK cheat code. If that £875k sits inside a Stocks & Shares ISA… Every pound you withdraw is tax-free. No income tax. No capital gains tax. Nothing. A £35k salary from a job gets taxed. £35k from your ISA lands in your account in full. So how long does it take to build £875k? Invest £500/month at 10% and you get there in about 29 years. Start at 25 → ~54 Start at 30 → ~59 At that point your portfolio can pay you £35k a year. Forever. The UK actually gives investors incredible tools. Most people just never use them.

That’s about the top third of the tail gone. A little lower & they would have lost the rudder. It was not an Air Refueling mishap. It was not hostile or friendly fire…this is not shrapnel damage. From what I understand, it was a near head-on mid air collision. Allegedly, a third tanker was around 10 miles behind this one & was just able to avoid being hit, too. At a closure rate of 1,000 mph, the third tanker would have around 40 seconds to maneuver away from the doomed jet after seeing the collision. Just because the tail says Beale on it does not mean the crew is from Beale AFB. Crews will get assigned any jet available. Mid-air collisions are a nasty threat. I don’t know the cause and only an investigation will tell us that.
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical

A better look at the partially sliced-off tail of the USAF KC-135 involved in the mid-air collision over Iraq yesterday, back on the ground in Tel Aviv.

Lots of questions asking why winters in UK:- 1. Spread tire wear 2. Will get % cost of 2nd set back come resale 3. Winters work significantly better than summer tyres below +8°C - plenty of info available online 4. They (or chains) are legal requirement in Alps during winter 1/2
Simon Lane@SimonCarGuy

Winters off. Summers on. Excellent service from @kwikfit St Albans (Hatfield Rd) who took 30 x mins and charged very reasonable £40 inc VAT for swap. Nice friendly team. Car has 25k miles but still has 5mm tread left on all 4 x original summer tyres.
