Months of relentless violence by Israeli state-backed settler militias, soldiers and police forces have achieved their goal: the last remaining families in the Palestinian community of Ras ‘Ein al-‘Auja left this week. They are switching off all UNRWA facilities in the entirety of the country (schools, health centres, shelters). There are 2.5 million Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA in the Occupied Palestinian Territory many of which receive services.

From October 2023 to December 2025, 84 Palestinians, including one minor, died in Israeli prisons. According to some reports, the full figure is higher. Of the Palestinians known to have died in Israeli custody, 50 were from the Gaza Strip, 31 from the West Bank, and 3 citizens of Israel. Israel released only 4 of the bodies and is holding the remaining 80. Testimonies given to B’Tselem indicate that the inhuman conditions in these facilities, including deliberate starvation, denial of medical care, severe and systematic violence, and lack of access to basichygiene, have led to the deaths of Palestinian prisoners. According to UNICEF the Israeli army destroyed 98% of schools in Gaza Strip and killed 1000 school teachers and about 20,000 school students. 633,000 school students are deprived from schooling today and Israel is not allowing school textbooks to enter Gaza.

Harder than the war itself is what we are living through now in Gaza, as if we have been left to die in silence, as if we were buried in a grave while still alive.
