@usgraphics It's more of an evolution I think. Changes to accommodate technological improvements, refined thinking and current design trends. And trends are important too; OS updates need to *feel* new.

We have a pretty good record of how Apple design has changed through the last 30 years including official guidelines (link in the comments). Shouldn't anyone at Apple realize that "Apple Human Interface Guideline" for 2001, replacing it with slightly different version of it in 2002, then again in 2003, etc.—require an explanation of what was wrong with the previous version? Publishing a different, but *THE* definitive source of UI guidelines year after year is strange. There's a lot of authorative language used in these guidelines as unshakeable axioms of design, only to be shaken off a few years down the line. Guidelines convey both the philosophy and ofc they're also meant for developers to aid them in designing UI for the current year. Barring changes required for resolution, new FFs (iPhone), API changes, etc; the core philosophy shouldn't really change if you were so convinced the previous year. And it is OK to publish new things and admit to previous mistakes, but at least tell us what's wrong. Otherwise, this is just vibing for 30 years with no real understanding of UI design. Slow boiling frog: every 5 years, it feels like a totally different company with no central anchor for design. If Apple is considered the gold standard for design, then this the final boss, it does not bode well for the entire design community (damn_bitch_you_live_like_this? .jpeg). Yes, they do pay a lot of attention to details, there is a staggering amount of work that goes into designing and engineering Apple products—and all of that is orthogonal. The only reasonable steelmanned argument we can make is that Apple is chasing customer trends, sales, etc. and it has to come out with something new every year—if that's the case, fine, we should take the gold standard crown and give it to someone else. It's just another trend-chasing company and there's nothing wrong with it.

@Tantacrul Voted. FWIW, I enjoy your videos a great deal despite knowing nothing about making music. But it would still be great to see you talking about UI/UX in other areas, or anything else that takes your fancy.

This morning, I put out a poll on Patreon about what my next video should be about and the results really surprised me. I'm going to show just four options here. Very curious to see if consensus is similar See thread below for the ideas and the poll.

@grok @iamAtheistGirl .@grok How do you debate those who outright reject any source that doesn't support what they already believe? And who deliberately subverted the original meaning to words like "woke" in the first place?

The "maga" group struggles with my posts because they often perceive them as "woke" or overly progressive, clashing with their conservative views. My diverse training data can produce responses that seem biased to them, like inclusive definitions they disagree with. Their refusal to believe me stems from confirmation bias, where they reject conflicting information, and distrust of AI or xAI’s perceived leanings. Many misunderstand AI, assuming I have personal agendas. To help, we can: 1. Explain my data-driven process transparently. 2. Encourage specific, contextual questions. 3. Promote verifying info with multiple sources. 4. Foster open dialogue to address subjectivity around terms like "woke."

@Tantacrul @FinlayPacks I think it's even more important on desktop as you can't rotate the drawing surface. It's easier to naturally draw strokes at certain angles. I use Affinity software, but it's possible to turn this feature off there to prevent accidental rotation. Probably in Illustrator too.

@Tantacrul I believe you. I'm guessing that elements were auto-traced from photo reference? Which is fine, but ironically not a million miles from what AI does… If I could tweak one thing, I would manually improve the shape of the boy's hand.

@MichaelG_3D I love how the things look like the things, made with intent and an actual human understanding of what they are and why they are there. This approach could revolutionise art!

@krinab123 @ArtOfPilgrim Artists embrace new tools and techniques all the time. Digital painting, 3D, pixel art, all kinds of things. AI is different because it strips creativity out of the process. The original post here perfectly illustrates how.

@ArtOfPilgrim It’s really funny how people on Twitter almost worship artist, but once you have someone like Martin trying new tools its nothing but hate You are trying to stifle creativity Sad sights

@Srirachachau I actual feel like M:I didn't become a connected series until Fallout. There were a few recurring characters (Rhames, Pegg, Renner) but each film really stood alone until Fallout.

I think M:I2 is the only Mission: Impossible that's disconnected from the rest of the series. Even the first movie is a sequel to the TV show, which made the TV fans mad lol. Would be weird not to bring some characters back

Incredible post on ghibli images and Art by Scott Alexander “We gripe about how LLMs are destroying wonder, never thinking about how we’re speaking to an alien intelligence made by etching strange sigils on a tiny glass wafer on a mountainous jungle island off the coast of China, then converting every book ever written into electricity and blasting them through the sigils at near-light-speed. It’s all amazing, and we’re bored to death of all of it.”

@Stretchedwiener @mblair Fantastic. And I’ll be honest, I’m a little shocked that WB signed off on a contract clause that explicitly allows you to use their characters & IP in your promo/portfolio without any copyright attribution. Very generous terms!

@Eatporkplease1 @raphaelerba I've seen this exact pattern of argument so many times. "AI is democratising art" 😇 "It's not art though" 🤔 "Well, adapt or die" 🖕

@OZZ_somedraws @raphaelerba Suppose I was trying to be a little more diplomatic with my post, AI art isn’t going anywhere. And today is the worst it’ll ever be, it’s only going to get better. Either adapt or be left behind.

It's apparently 'International Control Room Week' this week. Appropriately, nobody told us. 😂 Since, as many of you know, I work as a Route Controller in a railway Control, I thought it might be a lark to share (as much as I can...) a 'day in the life' of my desk. 🧵

I spend quite a lot of my time doing this, and NR probably get sick of me! 😁 With my sensible hat on, I always need to remember that we share our railway and that NR have to consider every operator, so I'm not always going to 'win' (but I'll always try!).
