@enobacon@BikePortland There's also not 40,000 of them. The freight can and should travel down Powell at reasonable speeds in a safe manner, it's the personal car trips (especially single occupancy) that need to be cut back on.
Getting ready for the Powell Blvd Community Safety Forum at Cleveland HS. Here’s the @OregonDOT “Immediate improvements on SE Powell Blvd” graphic. Note they will do 20mph school speed zone on Powell by next month.
@Kelesti_@juegosnomames@m4lema It would also be counterproductive when trying to get feedback from a general online audience, much different than using your country's language with others from you country. Strange to act like it's a relgious or moral value that the OP is breaking idk.
And I only just now realized one of the dead was a bicycle rider on the Oregon Coast Bike Route (from Germany, likely on a bike tour). So sad. Such needless tragedy.
9 (nine!) people have died while driving on state highways in rural Oregon just since this past Friday (9/30). Always amazing to me how no one in transportation/elected leadership ever talks about this problem.
@eliaaxz_@nsc_ronan@venuswhxre@keffals Ya it's kinda up to those communities to figure out a cheating situation idk why someone would care from the outside (besides the spectacle of the drama)
Keffals managed to do actual, tangible acts of activism (huge charity streams, taking down a fascist forum) and this website will never forgive for her that
@ImpunityCity@vecchitto@tterrill@LAShepard221@NYC_DOT It's the speed that's dangerous. Electric assist vehicles enable people to get around who can't or wouldn't commute via bike/scooter otherwise. It also saves people $$$ from owning a car in a city where there are too many and too much space devoted to cars.
@cbenard@gswakelyn@Patraverse She's has a podcast "red scare" for years and had been extremely online in general. Let's just say she has some really weird political/religious views, but you can search around on here or Reddit or wherever to see why she's so controversial
@JRRToken1@LivesVentura@agent_of_change@JeromeGDavis People locked in homes vs. millions dead from Covid and associated effects, and you'd choose millions dead? Like, it's less bad as a wartime draft, but it's the same necessary resistance to an existential threat (although drafts have been misused many times tbf).
China has gone a month without any Covid deaths. The mainstream media isn't covering this, since it doesn't support the "Zero Covid is unsustainable" and "China must learn to d̶i̶e̶ live with the virus" narratives.
@LivesVentura@JRRToken1@agent_of_change@JeromeGDavis They had issues and people had a bit less food than would be ideal, but nobody died. The alternative is literally millions of deaths from Covid and related impacts.
@martyG1214@jack_schorsch@danielmkim This is the other logical result of "go home safe to your family, don't be a hero". Shoot a civilian who MIGHT have a weapon, and stand down when confronted with a known armed threat. He's not wrong and the training is extremely bad since this is exactly what it leads to.
@PG1958@jack_schorsch@danielmkim At the slightest threat (bad), and ineffective in major situations when they feel threatened (also bad).
The guy above you seems like he's trying to use it as some sort of excuse which is odd, but he's not incorrect.
@PG1958@jack_schorsch@danielmkim There's a podcast episode called "the man who teaches our cops to kill" that talks about it if you're interested.
It's very common for "going home to your family is the number one most important thing" to be emphasized during training. This causes cops to be trigger happy
It really is insane that every single person with a cell phone deals with several attempted scams every day and we’ve just accepted that it’s part of our lives forever
