@thetalentguru @AutisticCallum_ I guess that relates to the point further up about who sets the rules - why was their ok but yours rude- because of their rules! So many unspoken too - set up to fail in lots of ways!

@AutisticCallum_ I still think there are unwritten rules & hierarchies that we may not be aware of as autistics. There are plenty of times that some1/ppl have joked, i joked back & they got angry. At a later time i do set a boundary, either we both joke or we don't. But don't humiliate me again!

As an Autistic person, I often take things more seriously than other people do. This is because I experience many things - such as emotions, thoughts, sensory experiences, and more - on a deeper level; things often feel more intense for me.

#OliversCampaign I am angry @NHSE_WTE have always been clear: people with a learning disability & autistic individuals delivering Oliver’s Training should be paid Band 5 rates Yet many charities with contracts to deliver it are paying minimum wage Not On My Watch Please retweet

My mum once said the autistic mind is like Google because it takes one word or phrase and connects it to thousands of scenarios where that word applies in order to try and give you the best result

@MePeterNicholls It is also very hard to get a blue badge! There is very strict criteria and even if you have a condition that means you would benefit and explain it, if you do not meet their exact criteria, there is no way in!

Misinformation around disability benefits and “free cars” needs addressing urgently. Here are the clear facts: a thread🧵 Blue Badges •Blue badges DO NOT mean a free car. •A car displaying a blue badge is not necessarily a Motability car. continued…

So much of ADHD is about immediacy and urgency. I interrupt people accidentally, find waiting hard, jump from task to task, struggle to think anything through - all because things need doing NOW. If something doesn’t need doing right this very minute, it doesn’t get done.

@JoeHutson87 @iD_Mobile_UK @HairyWelshy It's going to need everyone to make a direct complaint to @Ofcom as this isn't the first time, it's been regularly failing since December 24. It's so unreliable I never renewed contracts. It's more of a IDmobile hasn't paid to use the network, so get cut off problem, isn't it?

A couple in the coffee shop ordered soup today, so when I took it over to them I tried to look as unsteady as I could without dropping it and said "two soups" and they just looked at me blankly.

Today I passed my viva, with minor corrections & 3 months to do them in, so in 3 months I might be Dr Jo and for the mountain analogy: I got to the top but the place where you stick the flag in is just over there not quite where I am. #phdlife #phdchat #phdplace #phdvoice #viva

It doesn't really matter what I say on here, it's guaranteed that someone will be angry about it. Someone will be furious and say I am making things up, or grifting. Someone will suggest that I'm exploiting parents because I don't work for free. In a way, that's quite liberating. It means there isn't much difference between saying something completely anodyne and actually quite challenging - it will all get the same response. Someone will be outraged. So I'm going to say what I really think. Punishing children does not help them learn. When 'structure and consequences' is a euphemism for 'harsh control' then we put the long term wellbeing of our children at risk, in the service of short term control. Yes, frightened children look well behaved. Yes, scared teenagers are quiet and face the front. Yes, silent corridors are so much more orderly. Yes, you can push children into getting better exam results if you simply don't allow them to do anything else. The question isn't whether we can do things, the question is whether it's really worth it. Controlling children will only get you so far, because children grow up, and they need to learn how to control themselves. You can't learn self-control through being controlled, the two things are separate. One is about compliance, whilst the other is about agency. Doing as you're told will only get you so far. If that's what we prioritise in our children's education, no wonder they are telling us (and showing us) that they're unhappy.

What do people think of those summaries that state what Autistic &/or ADHDers are good at? As a self diagnosed ADHDer I find them unnecessary and they make me cringe! Feel they are saying ‘they really are worth knowing’. Just take me as me, you shouldn’t need persuading!
