In Miami, two inmates on murder charges who never met face-to-face had a baby through an AIR DUCT. Daisy (29) and Joan (23) fell in love via the vent between floors. He wrapped his semen in plastic, tied it to a rope made of torn bedsheets, and lowered it down. She pulled it up and self-inseminated with a store-bought applicator. In 2024, she gave birth to a baby girl with DNA confirming it’s their child. The jail is currently investigation this shocking security lapse.

@Empty_America This reminds me of the observation that you can find child prodigies in chess, math etc. precisely because those pursuits don't require emotional maturity or an understanding human relationships.

Yeah, we don't really have a word for the polar opposite of autistic.
Like the person whose brain effortlessly calculates the infinity variables of social interaction, knows exactly what to say and when to say it, but will never remember how to multiply fractions.

There needs to be a word for people who are the opposite of autistic. Personable, sociable, likable, and empathetic... But unable to operate a toaster or use the =SUM() formula in excel. My daughter is a bit like this. Big head. Big brain. I don't know what it's used for. Except I do. It catalogs all her friends, what they like, what I like, what I might need in a particular moment, and hearts, lots of hearts. But God help us if we need to go somewhere in an elevator. "How many fingers am I holding up?" 2, 3, 4, 7 — whatever, it's funny to her and irrelevant. Counting isn't a representation of a quantity, it's a song, which you can start or stop at any point. Love her, she's great, but definitely the opposite of autistic.

It would be interesting to see a european country "decline in place" but it may not happen.
Even places like Romania or Moldova have no problem attracting immigrants.
Once a certain point of economic pain is reached, seems like *everywhere* opens the doors.

i get why people think it's stupid to treat dogs like babies (and it's def a bad meme when it discourages you from having real ones) but i think anything that gets you goal-oriented is good, actually

I think there's some truth to the idea that reproductive age women in particular are en masse channeling a lot of maternal energy onto dogs in a way that makes it easier for them to not worry so much about having a baby
until suddenly they're worrying a LOT about having a baby
And that's probably pretty suboptimal at a societal level, but idk, it's a free country. Perhaps we just discourage our kids from doing this and try to make it a little easier for people to be present in public with real children rather than dogs

@EdLatimore Ideally you should prevent it earlier, by just inserting yourself between the two. That may still be possible once they're fighting, but harder. I do something similar with fighting kids all the time (some of whom are roughly my size).
