@ChrisRamsey60 Range, rather than squinting to see where the laser is landing you get a small screen with a bull’s-eye showing where it is. It’s a lot easier to look down at the screen and press the measurement button for something 180 feet away. It captures an image so you can review after.

@2x4caster Yea, i think this may still be squishy. Still good truck volume at decent numbers, but cash market on new secondary buys is punk. Real sell off in cash comes next week? Futures is leading the way. I could be wrong.

Ran a tele-handler today. Honestly, I’m still pretty talented with it. Perfect balance. Just like the current lumber market.

The Venezuela gangs have taken over the kids’ bedroom. The girls tell me they can’t get in there to clean it up.

I'm convinced that Madison, Wisconsin, is the most underrated town in America. It’s a beautiful place surrounded by lakes, with a great college that brings in amazing food, culture, and events. The cost of living is affordable, the schools are excellent, and the people are some of the friendliest in the country. Is there any Midwestern town better than Madison?

Get your toe in the door...and make it happen 💪 Story time... The summer after undergrad, I was building a house with a team of students; we had designed it over the previous 2 semesters, for an affordable housing developer. But, I had zero $$ and needed a way to pay for my ramen. So, I rustled up a job taking photos of a jobsite for a GC. I'd go 2 evenings a week after work, and document this big residential project about 30 mins outside of town. The owner lived in NY, and wanted to see progress on his house (in VA), so I'd take photos, burn them on a CD, and the GC would mail them weekly to the owner. Because I was onsite by myself, I could look at everything, take my time, wander around. I began noticing patterns, and would try to predict the next steps that would happen on a particular scope of work. "Looks like they're prepping for roofing. I see they're putting up some material around the edge. What's that? Let me go home and look it up. Oh, drip edge! What's that for?..." etc etc. It was before Google was very helpful, so I had construction books, or my dad, or just my own powers of observation and deduction. When I went to the GC's office to drop off the CD, I'd chat with the president sometimes. He'd ask me what I was seeing, what I thought about it, etc. Little did I know those 3 minute conversations were laying the groundwork for my future! The summer turned to fall, and my project finished, and I took a job with another GC as a laborer. I was still driving back and forth to take photos on the other project, til one day, when I was dropping off the CD, and the president again asked me to stay for a minute. "I hear you're working as a laborer. Want to learn estimating, project managing, and everything there is to know about construction from this side?" Somehow he saw I had something, and all I could think was that it was those 3 min conversations we had once every week or two. "YES!" I said. And just like that, I was in. I'd spend the next few years at that GC, learning everything I could get my hands on...and before long, I was running my own crews and my own jobs. What I learned: use every opportunity to learn - even the most humble. Follow your curiosity, and fulfill whatever tasks you're given with aplomb and thoroughness. Your enthusiasm will not go unnoticed, although the path will be a bit more winding than you may have expected!
