A “Duolingo for Africa” project I’ve been working on. Inspired by the local language models @gatere_mark has been building, I started exploring what language learning could look like with AI trained on African languages. Feels like a compelling use case for local AI models 🤔

@gary_miklos 2020-2025: I work in production so every edit I do, then I press CMD+ENTER and it deploys to production, then I test 2026: I work solely with Claude Code on the server in production so I don't even need to push to deploy anymore! But I still ask Claude to commit/push regularly

Building @urithihq has led me down some interesting rabbit holes. One thing I didn't expect: churches and Bible societies have done a huge amount of work translating African languages. I recently came across one that's even building AI models and datasets for African languages.
