@shwood Bought a Sony active 3DTV back in 2011 and it’s still the main TV in my living room. It’s not 4K but the contrast ratio, black levels and colour reproduction is still top tier.

@fski31 Canon XL1 MiniDV cameras, which recorded standard-definition DV (720×576 PAL, interlaced). Giving 512 active lines. Anthony Dod Mantle was the KING of shooting in this format, and he hated how labelled he got, but he did end up shooting 35mm film on later projects.

This has to be one of the most insane 4K releases ever. The film was shot on DV, and at the time we did a huge amount of processing just to make it look good enough in HD to go back out to film — or 2K, as it then was. Now it’s been uprezzed again to 4K, which is frankly hysterical. We’re talking about something that began life as 512-line interlaced video being pushed to 4K. And, just for added fun, the way it was shot also built in temporal artefacts as it was shot 25FPS, which I can assure you gave us some very interesting headaches trying to get rid of them.
