As the Fall semester starts on Monday, Aug. 25, Florida State University will welcome another talented class of freshmen to campus! ☀️🌴⛲️ FSU offers a variety of pathways for first-year students. Roughly 800 students will start their FSU experience at @TallyState through FSU Next, and nearly 315 students will start their FSU experience abroad at one of @FSUIP’s four study centers. Additionally, 25% of admitted students are among the first in their families to attend college or university. #GoNoles #FSU2029 Read more ➡️ news.fsu.edu/news/universit…

A regular hangout spot for mid-1900s scientists in the Cavendish Laboratory (@DeptofPhysics), the Eagle pub is where James Watson and Francis Crick famously declared they had "discovered the secret of life" — more commonly known as DNA. The Eagle is also one of the latest stops for our @FloridaState Biology in London program students! While in Cambridge, a city just north of London, students visited iconic @Cambridge_Uni labs, including those of Watson and Crick as well as Frederick Sanger, who determined the structure of insulin, and Howard Florey, a key agent in penicillin's development. Students also toured CU's Pembroke College (@pembroke1347) and its chapel. bio.fsu.edu/london/ #FSUGlobal 📸 : Marie Charrel-Dennis

While venturing to one place, you may just find another! On their way to the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum (@medicalmuseums) — the birthplace of antibiotics — students in @FloridaState's Biology in London Program found the Wild Table of Love (@GillieandMarc), a public sculpture inviting onlookers to sit down with some of the world's most endangered animals. Students also visited the water pump famously identified by physician John Snow as a source of cholera in 1854. bio.fsu.edu/london/ #FSUGlobal 📸 : Marie Charrel-Dennis

Students with the @FloridaState Biology in London Program recently stepped back in time with a visit to the Linnean Society of London, a leading scientific society where joint papers by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russell Wallace first announced the theory of evolution by natural selection to the world in 1858. Head of Collections Isabelle Charmantier led students on a specially-curated private tour, including the historic library featuring notebooks and personal writings of Wallace, one of the fathers of biogeography. Students also explored the society’s “Crown Jewel,” the library and entire collection of plant and animal specimens belonging to Carl Linnaeus — the Swedish botanist who established the classification system of life nearly 300 years ago. bio.fsu.edu/london/ #FSUGlobal

It’s time for another adventure with our students from @FloridaState's Biology in London program! The group soaked up the sun at the world-renowned Kew Gardens, where they attended a research seminar and toured the 19th century herbarium and cutting-edge DNA sequencing lab. The class then explored the desert and tropical rainforest sections of the Princess of Wales Conservatory to search for geographic patterns among the plants growing there. bio.fsu.edu/london/ #FSUGlobal

The adventure continues for students in @FloridaState's Biology in London program with a visit to @NHM_London, home to 80 million animal and plant specimens. Simon Loader, chief curator of vertebrate zoology, provided the class with a pre-opening private showing of the Great Hall and its iconic blue whale skeleton, named “Hope,” swimming overhead. The class also received personalized tours of the museum’s insect and spirit collections, including specimens originally collected by Charles Darwin and his contemporaries. #FSUGlobal 🔗 bio.fsu.edu/london/
