Several Florida State University students have been impacted by a fire that occurred late Wednesday night at an off-campus apartment complex on Ocala Road. Local fire and police officials responded quickly; however, the fire damaged one building and led to the evacuation of several others, resulting in the displacement of several FSU students. Members of the FSU Police Department and the FSU Division of Student Affairs also were on the scene through the night assisting FSU students. Student Affairs staff are working with affected students to help provide temporary housing, basic needs, academic support and other campus services. “We’re focused on making sure our students are safe and have what they need right now,” said Vice President for @FSUDSA Amy Hecht. Those who wish to support the affected students may contribute to the university’s existing Student Emergency Fund. .@FloridaState's Science on the Move program won the Board Choice Award for its engaging exhibit and interactive demonstrations during the 14th-annual Tallahassee Science Festival, hosted by @TallyState on Nov. 8! Led by director Charles Carpenter (pictured), Science on the Move aims to inspire students and support teachers in STEM education with hands-on investigations that connect content to real-world experiences. The program serves elementary, middle, and high school students in Florida's Big Bend region. Science on the Move is a collaboration between the Office of STEM Teaching Activities (@fsubio) and @FSUPhysics. .@FloridaState recently celebrated National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week with a series of events recognizing the research, mentorship and contributions of postdoctoral scholars! Evan Lloyd, a postdoctoral associate in @fsubio and @FSUNeuroscience, took third place in the 5-Minute Research Competition for his presentation, titled “How Evolution Shapes the Brain.” The weeklong event was hosted by the FSU Postdoctoral Association (@FSUPostdocs), led by PDA director and distinguished research professor of biological science and neuroscience Debra Ann Fadool. “And what’s more fun than dinosaurs, really?” @scbgarden in California will host “Dinosaurs Around the World,” an animatronic exhibit developed in conjunction with @fsubio's Gregory Erickson. The botanical garden aims to highlight its own "living fossils," species that were once known from fossil record alone but later discovered in living form, such as Dawn Redwoods, Ginkgo trees and Sago palm cycads.
