Hi! I'm a long time gamer who always wanted to make games, so now I'm following @GameDevTV courses to learn and build my own game ideas with blender and unity. If anyone wants to say hi or suggest someone to follow, please let me know! #gamedev #unity #gamedevelopment

@VideoGameiacs Hi! I'm at the beginning of all this and learning to create games. I'm going to complete my first game soon, it's a 2D platform game made in unity where you play as the Easter bunny. It's pretty rough, but it's playable and fun, which is plenty for me right now 👾

@MRay_Games Sometimes, yes. I like having games of different lengths, but often it feels easier to pick up a shorter game when I'm busy.

@gaminginthewild This was basically standard for box art in the 80s/90s. They did usually put some photos of actual in game graphics on the box somewhere though, which I think is fair to customers.

A question for you all: How do you feel about key art that's an illustration capturing the vibe of the game, but not representative of the graphics? Some examples:

@piros_dev @thekitze I just checked my domains on Google and it says they're being transferred to Squarespace at some point. I'm not sure what that will mean for the pricing, but Google was great while it lasted. Thanks for the info!

@game_dev_ben @thekitze Google domains don't exist anymore, and yeah it might be even cheaper on Cloudflare, they don't make any profit from their domains (sell them at cost)

@LzyIndTky I'm seeing this all over x. On my recipe account I'm seeing people post pictures of lemons or cheese graters with "what is this?" And getting huge amounts of replies. Fair enough if people like this, but it's a mystery to me what's appealing. Maybe they're just easy distractions?

@piros_dev @thekitze Google is £10 a year I think, so that's been my choice for a few years now, are they even cheaper than that?

@thekitze They have the cheapest domains as well, no weird first year discounts scams for them either. Haven't found anything cheaper, but they don't have much variety in top level domains.

@KenneyNL It's always been weird to me that sometimes players complain about the engine. I just play the game and go with meaningful questions like am I having fun?

Are you tired of gamers hating on your game because of the engine you chose? Just make a splash screen that shows a fake engine logo and they'll think it's custom made - guaranteed. #gamedev

@_akseliv I played more! It definitely gets tougher, I like the dodging and timing going on to get though screens. I'm not sure what happens next from here, I'm just at a wall?

@thatstraw I used Linux for about 20 years and loved it. The thing is, I'm busier now and windows has sorted out the problems that made me go to Linux. I'm finding it very stable now, and it has the biggest compatible software/games library, which is a big incentive to use it.

Q: "I'm new to game dev, how much does it cost? Are paid tools better? how much do I need to spend to learn?" You don't have to spend any money (other than a computer), money does not automatically == better Blender is free and a lot of people swear by it, I'm not a 3D modeller myself but I don't think it's limited in any serious way compared to something like Maya/3DSMax. Unity/Unreal/Godot are all free, all excellent, all capable of building any game you can imagine. GIMP is free and works mostly as well as Photoshop. And in terms of learning there is a mountain of learning content for free on YouTube. Courses can be helpful if you're looking for a guided multi-hour path but if you are self-taught you can learn everything just from YouTube. I learned myself by a ton of trial and error and frantically googling for answers, there was no YouTube or paid courses in my day, so it can be done and is much easier nowadays. My advice is stop looking for the "perfect tool" and just get started. You learn so much more by having actual experience as opposed to overanalyzing and being paralyzed waiting for someone to tell you the secret tool, there is no secret, just get started and keep at it.

@_akseliv I've been playing it this evening and having fun. Love the music. I'm not sure what I should do at this point though? Does the game continue from here or am I at the end of the demo?
