In 1984, Apple introduced the Macintosh. And in 1985, they fired their founder Steve Jobs, by a vote of the Board of Directors.
As his detractors were quick to point out, Jobs wasn't perfect. He was a bit immature in that first phase of his career. He was knowing for firing employees on the spot, intense micromanagement, and harsh criticism that could make him tough to work for.
But when he left, things changed. The company languished, and almost died. Microsoft dominated the market, and Apple's operating system fell behind.
Meanwhile, Jobs went and started a new company. He called it NeXT computer. Did you know the first prototype of the worldwide web was built on a NeXT computer? It was a high end machine with powerful object oriented programming that was incredibly forward thinking for its time... but ultimately never found success as a business.
Flash forward to 1997, and Apple is trapped. They need a new operating system and considered a few options. They looked at BeOS and... a little company called NeXT.
You know how the story goes. They end up buying NeXT, and the NeXTSTEP operating system becomes... the next step for Apple. Jobs returns as CEO, first on an interim basis and then permanently. That's right — every Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro is built with the technology created at NeXTSTEP. When Jobs left Apple, he took the heart and soul of the company with him. And while he was gone he would create the technology that would set the company up for the next phase of growth.
When I was a kid and I heard this story (which became folklore for my generation of software developers) I thought "who could fire Steve Jobs? Who could be so stupid as to vote to fire him?"
Now here we are in 2024 and we are voting on whether to fire the Steve Jobs of our time, Elon Musk. Instead of NeXT, Elon's new company is called X / xAI.
History doesn't repeat, but it often rhymes. Will we be stupid enough to forget history's lessons and condemn Tesla to a decade of mediocrity, like Apple in the age of Sculley? Should we bring Pepsi's CEO in to lead Tesla?
Sadly, I can't promise you that we are not stupid enough to make the same mistake again. I hear from a lot of stupid people every day.
I think Elon will be fine either way. When Jobs was fired he dumped all his shares right away, and Elon could probably sell quickly before things got too bad. I'm sure he'll have success at xAI, SpaceX, Neuralink and his other ventures. I wouldn't be surprised to see him build a robot at one of those other companies as well. But Tesla will languish. They will be unlikely to launch a Robotaxi service, let alone a humanoid robot.
I hope people make the right choice.

*2018*
Elon: If I can grow Tesla 10x, will you let me have the option to purchase 9% of the company at today’s prices?
Media: HAHA! That’s IMPOSSIBLE!
Shareholders: Okay, deal!
*Six years later, he meets every goal outlined*
Elon: So I can buy some shares right?
Dumb Shareholder: Well what about the $25,000 car?!? What about Robotaxis!?!?
Elon: We’re still working on those, but I had never mentioned them when we made the deal. Autonomy day was in 2019 and we first talked about a $25,000 car in 2020.
Dumb Shareholder: Yeah, but why don’t you advertise more? I’m voting no

🔥🔥🔥BREAKING: Toyota announced to have manipulated diesel engine testing and “temporarily suspend shipments of the affected engines.” This comes on the heels of Toyota admitting to have manipulated safety testing for certain models for over 30 years!
Globally, 10 models are affected (see list below).
If we learned one thing from VW’s Dieselgate scandal it is that when reports of manipulation emerge, it’s usually only the tip of the iceberg.
I expect mainstream media not to report about this or only in passing (3 second sound bite) as these media outlets won’t bite the hand that feeds them (Toyota got a huge advertising budget).

Why Tesla Is Unlike Any Other Carmaker in the World - Autoevolution
"Tesla singlehandedly jumpstarted the EV revolution, but despite this achievement, people still expect legacy carmakers to take over and wipe it out of the market. Evidence suggests this is no longer possible simply because Tesla has become like everyone else, too big to fail. Here's what makes Tesla such a great company."

Mercedes-Benz is again reducing prices across the board
The first price reductions for vehicles were implemented in October, and in November new models were included and discounts partly increased.
It seems like a desperate measure to create demand.
All BEV models including new ones with discounts.
Guess what: Mercedes-Benz has been heavily advertising for many years 😉

@DMC_Ryan @DriveTeslaca @VoltaCharging time to hand in the license. If you are that oblivious to both your car, your surroundings and inability to comprehend your running over something, you are a danger on the roads. She should be disqualified immediately.

How do you not know you are driving with a charging post under the front of your car?
Sorry @VoltaCharging, might want to send a repair crew out to the Ala Moana shopping center in Honolulu.

Teslas “Poor” build quality is the biggest hoax ever. Just watch this video between a $140,000 Mercedes S560 and a $30,000 base model 3… every single little thing rattles and squeaks in the #Mercedes while the #Tesla is rock solid, nothing rattles and squeaks. My Dad who owns the S class was a Tesla hater. After experiencing my model 3 performance and a demo drive of a model X, he now own 3 Teslas and has been driving this model 3 base for 4 days over his S class while he waits for the X plaid to arrive @elonmusk @wholemars @Tesla @teslaownersSV @ValueAnalyst1
