Huge personal news ❤️ 9,061 One Pagers later, @OnePageLove was acquired by Some Studio, led by @PietTerheyden Piet is a prolific builder with a fantastic track record in website curation, so I couldn't be more stoked knowing OPL is in careful hands. He spent years building @minimal_gallery before its acquisition and today continues to run the beautiful design publication, @minimalissimo I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the One Page Love journey over the years. Who would've thought this little niche gallery I started back in 2008 would take me around the world, open so many doors, and lead to countless conversations that turned strangers into lifelong friends. As for me, it's time for a brand new adventure, and I can't wait to share it with you soon...

@jasonfried @TimurNegru same reason i don't invest in holiday apartments, because when you go there, you end up spending your vacation time on maintenance, which defeats to object of going on holiday I think @tferriss gave this tip in his original book

@TimurNegru Neat idea, but zero interest in that. Don't want to own property as a business, don't want to maintain property as a business, don't want to rent things out and deal with all the headaches that come with that. And even more than all that, variety is just way more interesting.

Fair play to Jason for sharing how much their staff retreats actually cost each year. $3.1M over 9 meetups since 2022, averaging around $340K each. The alternative, however, is buying a property somewhere in Italy, France or Spain. There are many old farmhouses, chateaux, agriturismi, that can sleep 60ish people. A restored one that size, 30+ rooms, pool, tennis court, a good piece of land, goes for ~€1M, and another €250-500K to bring it to a good enough level. That's a one-time cost against $3.1M spent over 4 years, and you own it after. Use it twice a year, rent it out the other 10 months, and never book another place again.
Jason Fried@jasonfried

Twice a year we fly everyone in our company to a city so we can all hang out, share meals, and work/play together for a week. Given that we're fully remote, these IRL meetups are the only way we really get to see each other in person. They've become tradition, and they're among the most important things we do all year. We've been doing these meetups for decades now, and people often wonder how much they cost and if they're worth it. They're expensive and they're worth it. Here's the accounting comparing the last 9 meetups going back to 2022. Got questions? Post 'em here!

continuing my war on paid software that should be free, today's victim is: granola. quill gives you the same thing for free and completely private, just start recording and after you stop it, the entire audio gets transcribed into a default folder. completely open source as always

People are often surprised to hear that my podcast (2M+ listens/month) is literally just me and one producer + freelance editors. You don't need a lot of people to make videos, you need a system, curiosity, desire, and reps. I've done 790 videos since 2021, so at this point it's second nature. The real trick is I'm not doing this full time. I'm running companies all day, and that's actually where the content comes from. I'm taking notes on what I'm learning as I go, and when something's interesting I tell myself to come back and make something out of it. Or I'm in a meeting with someone sharp and I go "you should come on the podcast." It's not a second job I bolt on, I just made it part of how I already live and work.

how is @gregisenberg making so many high quality videos so frequently? does anyone know how big his team is? i can only imagine just the setup and planning of all his tutorial videos would take a massive amount of time and man hours doing them + running multiple companies seems like a superhuman thing to do

@MichaelJordaan that's a high profit %, I thought it would closer to the 10% range? is it because SA has more conservative bets?

A potem życie zrobiło swoje i dziś żyjemy w dwóch różnych światach. Ona: dzieci, szkoła, dydaktyka, nauka, góry, natura, koty, dramaty. Ja: firmy, fundusze, inwestycje, biznes, miasto, beton, psy, komedie. Ona: kreatywna, empatyczna, marzycielska. No to ogłaszam... To dekoracja. Więc jeśli twoja druga połówka to twoje przeciwieństwo, przestań to naprawiać. Może właśnie tam mieszka wasz sekret. Nie musicie kochać tych samych rzeczy. Wystarczą te same wartości, ten sam kierunek, szacunek do różnic i troska o drugą połowę większa niż o siebie. Mimo to każdego dnia wybierała to samo... mnie.

I don’t think you understand what ChatGPT Voice unlocks I went on a 4 hour hike yesterday. Through the northern California redwoods. Got more work done in those 4 hours talking to Voice through my AirPods then I do in 8 hours at my desk Work can be done ANYWHERE now 45 minute drive back using self driving? Now 45 minutes I can talk to Voice and work on side projects 20 minutes in the cafe? I can sit and talk to Voice and when I get home I have drafts on my computer for my newsletter for the next month Being able to just use your voice to talk to a super intelligence that controls your computer is unlike anything we’ve ever experienced before I don’t even care that the voice sounds human like, or you can interrupt it, or any of the wild advancements they made to the tech It’s the fact that it can control my computer, meaning all I need to get incredible work done is talk through my AirPods anywhere in the world that is the major game changer for me I don’t think people truly understand the implications of this yet Why even have a desk or monitor anymore. Work can be done ANYWHERE now The key is your set up: 1. Choose one device (preferably an always on desktop) as your main “headquarters” device all your work gets done on 2. Get the ChatGPT app on all your other devices (iPhone, iPad, laptops, Mac Minis) 3. Set up ‘connections’ in your settings so that all your ‘node’ devices can control your ‘headquarters’ device 4. Go legit anywhere in the world. Turn on Voice. Ask it to brief you on your projects, give you a recommended next step, then spin up new threads to do work I really don’t think work looks the same moving forward.
