Thrilled to share our latest work showing that “distillation through data” can be more effective than traditional knowledge-distillation (KD) for efficient multimodal pretraining- our distilled models have achieve SoTA performance at less inference cost! arxiv.org/abs/2411.18674

Excited to share what I've been up to since joining @GoogleDeepMind this year! We developed "JEST" a method for jointly selecting the best *batches* of data to train on. We use JEST to accelerate multimodal pretraining, surpassing previous SoTA with just 10% of the FLOP budget!

Excited to share our 1st study on the cross talk between inflammation and acute leukemia using (in this case) a novel TET2 mutant model. Conceived and executed by @Maguillamot -disrupted by Hurricane Sandy- and completed by @AnnaYeaton & @gcayanan1 @nyugrossman #AifantisLab

Honestly is there any hope for academia if the people in charge can’t even recognize that hiring sexual predators is bad

Meet the woman who labored for years on the technology underpinning Pfizer and Moderna's mRNA coronavirus vaccines. Many scientists thought her ideas were unworkable. But a few saw real possibilities.  nyti.ms/2Q9I8GH

Let's normalize discussions of difficulties and struggles in science. We need to create an environment where trainees feel free & safe to express their disappointment and struggles. Science is awesome but hard. Failure is normal. Let's acknowledge & talk about it.
