Fellas I have a theory…
What if the Buffalo Sabres are waiting to pull the trigger on the Hellebuyck trade until Patrick Kane makes a decision.
Trade for Hellebuyck will certainly involve either Quinn or McLeod. If you lose one of them you’re going to have to replace another fella in addition to Tuch who is around 50 points.
If you trade for Hellebuyck and miss out on Kane you’re in a world of hurt.

@LLysowski I'm starting kulich in Rochester even if he's ready to go. He needs time to get back up to game time speed.
I could see a world where Kane or someone like that signs or is aquired and helenius starts down there too. Wouldn't be my first choice but I could see it.

The Sabres already have a numbers crunch with their forward group, and Patrick Kane is reportedly deciding between Buffalo and Chicago... If Kane is going to come home, somebody has to go out the door and Jack Quinn is a clear candidate. How would you feel about swapping Quinn out for Kane for next year's Sabres lineup?

Dahlin can seamlessly play both sides of the ice, but not every defenseman can do that. Lindy Ruff isn’t a fan of off-handed pairings either. That’s why I feel Zellweger may be third pair.

@Matt_Bove It is an overpay. Now you have an RFA next year in Jack Quinn 20 goals 50 points who's agent can say he's not taking a dime under 5 if Krebs got 4.5. In fact pay my client 6 x's 6 and you got overpaid middle 6 wingers. Should've gotten a 3 x's 3 at most

Peyton Krebs signing for $4.5M is not an overpay. He’s 25 and coming off his best season (12G, 27A, 39P). It’s a perfectly fine number for a guy who can play all over the lineup. The thing becomes interesting is where they go from here, because they simply have too many guys.
