@goylim5 @subarustevenz You see it all the time when people are then corrected or presented with the truth they bury their head in the sand rather than admit they misread it or were wrong.

@GeraintChazey @subarustevenz What are you talking about? Are you a bot? My original reply says it's people misreading the news and then you agree with me but then say it's wilful ignorance. You can't misread something and also be willfully ignorant.

@goylim5 @subarustevenz Of course you can, it's confirmation bias. People want to read that labour is taxing them 22% on their savings without thinking for a second that it's ridiculous. Hence why this news story has got so much traction.

@goylim5 @subarustevenz It is wilful ignorance, there is so often a deliberate choice in political debate these days to avoid acquiring the relevant facts or knowledge. If people did, they might not be reacting like Labour are taking 22% of their savings.

@subarustevenz There are legitimate reasons why people may want to utilize cash inside an ISA. For example, retired people drawing income with money exposed to different levels of volatility and money needed in the immediate short term are best being wholly held in cash.

@goylim5 @subarustevenz Correct, it's willful ignorance and an inability to think critically that's causing it. Just like every other knee-jerk reaction to any news.

@subarustevenz I doubt its financial illiteracy that is causing people to misunderstand it. Its just people skim reading the headline and not seeing or processing the word "cash". It is still bad though even once you understand it.

@Okinawayanda @MingNoMerci @LovelyStuffFC @PolitlcsUK What are you talking about? It's a tax on the interest of cash in a stocks ISA. Nobody is taxing your actual cash. This is simply the closing of a loophole to encourage people to actually invest in stocks.

@GeraintChazey @MingNoMerci @LovelyStuffFC @PolitlcsUK Surely this is the first time?… Reduce Cash ISA -> tax cash in stocks -> what’s next is obvious. Can’t imagine what the next policy will be if the economy experiences another external shock. Tax again? You cannot tax those who already lose in the market.

@MingNoMerci @Okinawayanda @LovelyStuffFC @PolitlcsUK This tax is entirely avoidable, put your £20k cash into a cash ISA or buy stocks in a stocks and shares ISA. It's called tax avoidance, isn't that what all your heroes do? If you want to talk about taxes to get rid of let's start with Stamp Duty or the £100k 60% threshold trap.

@GeraintChazey @MingNoMerci @LovelyStuffFC @PolitlcsUK The key is that people are penalised by savings from taxed income and then taxed again. This is madness if you think through the tax process from income to groceries to savings. Tax the taxed income by having umbrella savings.

@MingNoMerci @LovelyStuffFC @PolitlcsUK It's not taxing the cash, it's taxing the interest on the cash in a stocks and shares ISA. You can still put your cash in a cash ISA and not get taxed. I wish you people were capable of critical thinking and not knee-jerking every time you see the word tax.

A graduate earning £50,000 pays 40% income tax, 8% National Insurance, & 9% Student Loan repayment. That is a 57% marginal tax rate on a standard middle-management salary The brightest talent is being taxed at a higher rate than multi-millionaires. It's economic madness

Ethno nationalism will be the new Brexit. This sounds bat sh*t crazy but you’ll see. I tend to be right about 90%+ of these things. I bet I’m right about EN.

@kickingmustang @moving_charlie And you're confusing a perfectly competitive market with the real world. If my small town that I need to live in only has 5 houses available to rent and 1 landlord owns all these houses then they have the power to charge above a market with 5 different landlords.

@GeraintChazey @moving_charlie It has no bearing on market rate of rent, only if owners refuse to rent them out, such as second home owners. You are confusing house price with market rate of rent. Price is a function of rent. The ignorance surrounding land and property prices in this debate is striking.

Can ANYONE explain to me how “taxing the rich” mechanically solves poverty? How does the money raised stop rising poverty, handouts? I keep asking, no one can lay it out. Until someone spells out the process with the numbers, how much it raises, where the money goes, and how it stops rising income inequality, it remains a jealousy tax in my view. Gary is 100% right that poverty is made worse by rising wealth inequality and I support his efforts to raise awareness of it. But so far no one, including Gary himself, has explained how taxing the rich actually changes the poverty being suffered by the poorest. What’s the detailed plan? Because to my knowledge, nothing but more jobs with higher wages has ever lifted people out of poverty. Turning this into a class war is counterproductive and will only make the problem worse, and I can spell out exactly how. Stop campaigning for the Jealousy Tax. Campaign for better employment conditions that mean more jobs at better wages.
