This is the first public mention of this breach. A third party claims they got access through a Roblox employee, with screenshots showing admin panel data linking usernames to emails. All email addresses are of course censored, but in the screenshots he sent me, they were fully visible. I reached out to Roblox, but they likely won’t take action or acknowledge the issue - which is why I felt it was important to share this publicly. Here’s what happened: A friend of mine received an unsolicited email from someone asking if he was interested in selling his Roblox account. There was no apparent way for anyone to have linked his email address to his Roblox username, which led us to suspect a data breach. To investigate further, I contacted the individual posing as someone interested in selling their account. My goal was to get them to add me on Discord so I could ask about the source of the email and username data. This was successful. During our conversation, the individual explicitly stated that they had received a scrape of the Roblox admin panel from an employee at Roblox. We do not have any information about the Roblox employee, as we only communicated with the third party who had the data. While the exact amount of data involved is unclear, it appears to include the ability to search Roblox usernames to view associated email addresses and other sensitive information, suggesting a significant amount of data is involved.
