@KosSamaras @Dawny44977980 There needs to be a better understanding that voters care about the environment, about violence against women, about reproductive rights, about housing costs, about education etc.

Jeff Kennett’s observation is correct: Not about the leader but their chances of winning. The Coalition’s vote in Victoria is geographically inefficient. It performs strongly in home-owning, monocultural regional communities, and in electorates where growth is constrained by planning laws or high property prices. But its primary vote continues to underperform in diverse, younger, fast-growing suburbs, and among higher-educated communities, precisely where the majority of the seats that matter are situated.

Everyone says they’d pay more for “Made in the USA.” I tested it. We make a $129 filtered showerhead manufactured in China. With tariffs surging to 170%, we explored reshoring. We found a U.S. supplier. Our costs nearly tripled. I ran a clean A/B test: 👇

@ramonvanmeer This is exactly why people who are apathetic about politics and economics annoy me. As a result of their ignorance, they are unable to make an informed voting decision, and are then shocked by the result.

@katherine_deves @KosSamaras Unfortunately we need regulation because, left to their own devices, many businesses will exploit staff, the environment and their customers without any consideration for the damage they are doing.

It’s extraordinary watching the LNP campaign double down on this policy. If their research is any good, it should’ve told them that most Australians instinctively suspect: cuts to the Public Service are cuts to the services they rely on. At this point, you’d be forgiven for thinking someone in Peter Dutton’s office is a double agent because all this does is amplify Labor’s message: Dutton will cut. afr.com/politics/feder…

@KosSamaras I suspect there is a belief within the Coalition, or parts of it, that a MAGA-style campaign will have broad appeal. I suspect we should also not underestimate the number of Australians who would like to "return to the 1950s", so to speak.

@KosSamaras @Accent_Research What concerns me about the Coalition is Dutton's bully demeanour, his failure to distance himself from Trump, Advance Australia and it's links to the MAGA.

RedBridge and @Accent_Research latest commissioned Federal Key Seats track. The biggest collapse I have seen in all my years of producing and consuming political polling, especially in Victoria and it’s not good news for the Coalition. In 20 key seats (see link in thread), Labor’s two-party-preferred vote now sits at 54.5%. These seats are likely to decide who forms government after May 3rd. Key takeouts: •The generational divide is stark. This is why we don’t lump Gen X in with Boomers as their political behaviours are fundamentally different. As for Gen Z - wow…. •Since our first wave in late February, the Coalition’s primary vote has collapsed by 11% in Victoria and 9% nationally. •That lost vote hasn’t all flowed to Labor. But the scatter of preferences across the field is proving highly decisive. *Attached graph combines wave 3 and 4.

One major issue with the Liberal Party heading into this election campaign and during it is that they have constructed a caricature of what it means to be Australian. - and what Australians really care about. For example, consider the Liberal Member for Lindsay recent speech, at yesterday’s election Coalition launch, that nostalgically referenced “Menzies’ forgotten people.” In reality, those individuals, who were the parents of the baby boomer generation, are no longer with us. They are all dead. Similarly, “Howard’s battlers” now largely refers to a demographic in their 70s, while the notion of “Morrison’s quiet Australians” appears to have been entirely fabricated post the 2019 federal election result. This reliance on outdated and manufactured images does little to reflect modern Australia and risks alienating a broader, more diverse electorate - which in the coming days the data may suggest is indeed occurring.

@BillAckman @realDonaldTrump "This is not what we voted for." - You clearly did not pay attention during the campaign. Trump is doing what he said he would. The message is very clear: The USA is not a trustworthy ally or trading partner.

The country is 100% behind the president on fixing a global system of tariffs that has disadvantaged the country. But, business is a confidence game and confidence depends on trust. President @realDonaldTrump has elevated the tariff issue to the most important geopolitical issue in the world, and he has gotten everyone’s attention. So far, so good. And yes, other nations have taken advantage of the U.S. by protecting their home industries at the expense of millions of our jobs and economic growth in our country. But, by placing massive and disproportionate tariffs on our friends and our enemies alike and thereby launching a global economic war against the whole world at once, we are in the process of destroying confidence in our country as a trading partner, as a place to do business, and as a market to invest capital. The president has an opportunity to call a 90-day time out, negotiate and resolve unfair asymmetric tariff deals, and induce trillions of dollars of new investment in our country. If, on the other hand, on April 9th we launch economic nuclear war on every country in the world, business investment will grind to a halt, consumers will close their wallets and pocket books, and we will severely damage our reputation with the rest of the world that will take years and potentially decades to rehabilitate. What CEO and what board of directors will be comfortable making large, long-term, economic commitments in our country in the middle of an economic nuclear war? I don’t know of one who will do so. When markets crash, new investment stops, consumers stop spending money, and businesses have no choice but to curtail investment and fire workers. And it is not just the big companies that will suffer. Small and medium size businesses and entrepreneurs will experience much greater pain. Almost no business can pass through an overnight massive increase in costs to their customers. And that’s true even if they have no debt, and, unfortunately, there is a massive amount of leverage in the system. Business is a confidence game. The president is losing the confidence of business leaders around the globe. The consequences for our country and the millions of our citizens who have supported the president — in particular low-income consumers who are already under a huge amount of economic stress — are going to be severely negative. This is not what we voted for. The President has an opportunity on Monday to call a time out and have the time to execute on fixing an unfair tariff system. Alternatively, we are heading for a self-induced, economic nuclear winter, and we should start hunkering down. May cooler heads prevail.

Since the start of 2024, we’ve spoken with more than 3,500 voters, via conversations lasting over an hour. Not one person, and I mean not a single one, has told us that cutting ABC funding is a priority or a good idea, or even something that has ever crossed their mind. What they have raised are real, pressing concerns: the rising cost of living, economic uncertainty, housing stress, access to healthcare, the impacts of climate change, and deep worries that their children might face a lower standard of living than they did.

@KosSamaras One thing that concerns me is that Dutton is not saying giving any detail, just making wild statements about cutting waste, being "anti-woke", none of his policies have proper costing. He is also doing nothing to bring the far right of the Liberal party into line.

US Vice President JD Vance: "Denmark, which controls Greenland, is not doing its job and it's not being a good ally. How are we going to solve that problem, solve our national security? If that means we need to take more territorial interest in Greenland, that is what President Trump is going to do because he doesn't care about what the Europeans scream at us, he cares about putting the interests of America's citizens first."

If this comes to pass, it would be a devastating outcome for #Ukraine. And, it goes without saying, this would undermine any hope of a realistic ‘China First’ strategy in the Pacific. Recognizing Russia’s illegal seizure of Crimea could encourage Xi. It would also fatally undermine American reassurance of Taiwan and its allies that the U.S. would help them in the face of Chinese aggression.

@TMFScottP @Qldstew @PhilipThalis @AvidCommentator The costs of these vehicles should, however, not be socialised. They should be carried by the people who want the big vehicles. We know they cause worse crashes, so they should carry a higher TAC charge, for instance.

Truely regressive move by Standards Aust to increase both parking spaces & aisle widths to cater for these gross vehicles. They’ve ignored; -more tarmac & so urban heat -less landscape -bigger excavation, so more truck movements & concrete -more construction cost -more tech in 🚗
