@gnhalifax Hey you’ll be in Michigan this fall- let me know if you want to drive up to @RHB_Books ! Just an hour and a half from jxn.
Reminded me since that’s where I picked up a bunch of that series.
English

@A2Shutt Same. Just did a short book review of it, releasing on our podcast tonight.
I plan to read it again soon
English

@gnhalifax I read it in one of the short Crossway classics abridgments. Still amazing stuff!
English

@jaredcwilson Louis Goldberg’s little Bible Study Commentary is… little, but very helpful
English

@wordsofthislife @andrewboonedog @testing521 We used to be in LwrSckvl but are in the city now. No issues here, but what an upsetting time. We do have Christian friends who lost their home. 😢
English

@gnhalifax @andrewboonedog @testing521 BTW - is your house close to the wildfire? For some reason I’m thinking you live in that area of Hfx.
English

The view of @DrTomSchreiner on 1Pet3:19 in the NAC, that Christ's preaching was post-resurrection / in his exaltation, appeals to me but it's not clear to me in his comments just where this preaching took place / how it was to spirits in prison. Anyone have thoughts?
English

@gnhalifax @andrewboonedog @testing521 Also clear - Christ didn’t preach the gospel to the dead in hades. A common misconception which I think we in the thread are all clear on.
English

@gnhalifax @andrewboonedog @testing521 Thanks Matthew - a few things which are clear to me from the passage in 1 Pet 3 are:
1. Made alive in the Spirit is Christ’s resurrection
2. Christ’s exaltation over powers is indeed mentioned at the end
3. The “disobedient” were during Noah’s time cf Rom 8:11; 1 Cor 15:44-45
English

@andrewboonedog @testing521 @wordsofthislife Here's a few pages from Schreiner if you care to read it.

English

@wordsofthislife They are fallen angels now in prison / 2Pet 2:4. Relates to sons of God in Gen 6
English

@gnhalifax @DrTomSchreiner But if in His exaltation - who are the ones in prison and where is the prison - in the heavenlies? And then what is the connection with Noah. I haven’t read brother Schreiner.
English

@marksweetnam @wordsofthislife @mjhknox @pabloexegete @testing521 @knownandfound Right. So he preached to them simply by announcing his victory?
English

@gnhalifax @wordsofthislife @mjhknox @pabloexegete @testing521 @knownandfound I quite like it too. Isn't Schreiner's suggestion (not unique to him) that Christ's going is a reference to His exaltation and that the preaching is the declaration of His victory. I don't think he goes so far as to equate the exaltation and the preaching, but one might.
English

@wordsofthislife @DrTomSchreiner I have thought that as well... but uncomfortable with it now. But it is a possibility
English

@gnhalifax @DrTomSchreiner I’ve always understood it to mean the Spirit of Christ which was in Noah (preacher of righteousness). They rejected his message are are now in prison awaiting the day of judgment. So the preaching took place in Noah’s day.
