You hear lots of people screaming "equipment has made golf courses obsolete"... Yet here we are with the best amateurs in the world averaging 74.87 and 73.92... The US Men's Amateur was played at Olympic club last month. Most of the best few hundred amateurs in the world were there. Scoring average at Lake Course (7185 yards) ▶️74.87 Scoring average at Ocean Course (6825 yards) ▶️73.92 I am still not quite sure what the definition of "obsolete" actually is, but I am guessing it doesn't include a scoring average of 74.87 by the best amateurs in the world. 😀

@LouStagner Growing the rough to obscene levels and narrowing fairways is the only architectural trick in the book to contain elite scoring when anyone with mild athleticism can hit the ball 300 yards.

I have a working theory that people who grew up playing golf don’t really drink on the golf course as adults, but people who took up golf in college/their 20s and beyond do. can everyone please provide their feedback on this

@RobLaurensonD4P These questions asked does not relate to how the NHS has shaped you to be what you are today. Your F1 and F2 training was done in the NHS. Without the NHS, you wouldn’t be able to make it this far. Initially you will need to start within the NHS to go further and beyond!

The NHS is genuinely an awful employer. It’s been a little over a year since I left and joined a GP practice and it’s been wonderful. I look back at my time as a resident doctor, and particularly my time as co-chair of the BMA, and remember continuously reflecting on how bad things were. Your concerns are legitimate. The old guard doctors are often out of touch. The media don’t have a clue. The public can not comprehend. The NHS says a lot of utter nonsense and take no action - they either don’t understand or don’t care. THINGS ARE AWFUL FOR RESIDENT DOCTORS. The lack of agency. The lack of autonomy. The disrespect. The insane and illogical hoops you’re asked to jump through. Everything you hate is legitimate. Strike. You’re justified in doing so.

@secretclubprov Genuine question, I’m abroad at a golf resort. Each morning all fairways are watered. I know the infrastructure isn’t in place on UK Golf courses as we don’t have the weather but is there not an alternative we can do when we have hot weather? My course is bone dry right now.

@CacheMudSap @SaiynFrmEarth @JeffNippard It's an enabler of growth. Growth is signalled through mechanical tension. I have paraplegic patients with plenty of perfusion of muscle tissues, but they suffer from atrophy due to lack of mechanical tension in the muscle.

@SaiynFrmEarth @go0segolf @JeffNippard Fuel to the muscle is what recovers the muscle. Fuel to the muscle is what grows the muscle. The heart is driving blood to the muscle to refuel it and help it grow. Blood is literally being driven into the muscle. It’s the driving force of growth.

This is a bit outdated. Muscle damage and metabolic fatigue are no longer believed to be major factors for driving hypertrophy. Mechanical *tension* is the main thing driving muscle growth. Tension is created when muscle fibers pull on bones under resistance. That tension is sensed by mechanosensors within the muscle, which send signals for the muscle cell to start making more muscle proteins (then they grow bigger). Based on the last decade of research, muscle damage and metabolic stress simply don’t correlate well with muscle growth, which is why soreness is not the key to growth, but progressive overload is.

@JeffNippard It’s total blood flow that goes through the muscle drives growth. More blood flow goes through, the muscle grows to accomodate for more blood flow. No other reason. More use more growth required.

@macjay72 @wesstreeting I don't know where they're coming from but I do know many leave after 2 to 3 years in the job. That is criminal. There should be some sort of contract that says if you leave, monies have to be paid back.

I am giving general practice the biggest uplift in years to build a neighbourhood health service and bring back the family doctor - so people can be cared for closer to their home by a familiar face. It will take time, but investment + reform = results. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

@cmwilliams99 Waiting lists were long. We all heard the Drs and Nurses tell us. Then they said pour more money in. Then they felt best option was to go on strike making long lists longer. Now they do £££ on agency and OT shifts. No other industry manages their pay as NHS staff then cry poor!!

“Senior doctors are charging the NHS premium rates for overtime” - isn’t that just how overtime works? You get paid more than your usual rate Not to mention the huge marginal tax rate (~70% for some) which goes back to the treasury)
