@nypost Can you please help with the case of Mohamed Achref Charrad who lives on McGuinness Blvd? He’s a violent offender who took over an entire building and is squatting. Housing court keeps delaying his eviction. He’s in court for animal abuse and assault. The neighbors are scared.

Nobody should be stuck paying for a subscription they don’t want because of how absurdly difficult firms make it to cancel. I’m thrilled that @nycmayor is carrying forward a “click to cancel” rule to protect NYC from this misconduct. More cities and states should follow suit.
NYC Consumer and Worker Protection@helloDCWP

While the federal government turns their back on consumers, NYC will always deliver. DCWP is proposing rules to make hard-to-cancel membership and subscriptions illegal. Have a bill you just can’t break up with? File a complaint with us at nyc.gov/Consumers

Two teenage girls were shot outside a McDonald’s in Coney Island in the middle of the afternoon. Think about that for a second. Families, workers, kids, people just trying to get something to eat, and this is what they are faced with. I want to recognize Jose Gonzalez, leader of the Guardian Angels Coney Island chapter, who stepped up with his team to assist with security around the crime scene and help staff and local residents feel safe after this incident. This is what the Guardian Angels have always done. When people are scared and neighborhoods are hurting, we show up. But there is a bigger lesson here. People should be able to walk into a McDonald’s, go to work, go to school, or just walk down their block without worrying about gunfire. The officers in our precincts know where the crime is happening. They know the corners, the buildings, the problem locations. But they need more resources, more manpower, and more support to actually address these areas before violence happens. I am proud of the Guardian Angels for stepping up, but volunteers should not be the ones filling the gaps. Our precincts need more resources and more officers so people can feel safe in their own neighborhoods again. Everyone deserves to feel safe doing everyday things. Right now, too many New Yorkers do not. Read more: abc7ny.com/amp/post/teena…

New Yorkers can’t afford another tax. Not property, not income, not a death tax, not even charging people more to park on their own streets. This isn’t a revenue problem; it’s a spending problem. City Hall needs to live within its means before asking families to pay more.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
Today, I had the honor of celebrating the graduates of New York's Correction Academy at Queens College. This is a role — and a city — that asks a great deal of New York's Boldest. On Monday, these graduates will step into the field, where they will meet New Yorkers at some of the most difficult moments in their lives. City Hall stands with them in the work that lies ahead. Together, we are working toward a correction system rooted in dignity, real care and accountability — one that supports officers, protects those in custody, and moves us closer to a safer, more just New York for everyone.

Today, New York City mourns the passing of Eliot Engel, a son of the Bronx who dedicated decades of his life to public service. From his early days as a teacher and guidance counselor to his 16 terms in Congress, Rep. Engel fought for single-payer health care, defended the environment, and cared for both the communities he served and the future of this city. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.

A violent offender has been squatting in a neighboring building for six years due to repeated court delays. His January eviction date was postponed again, and he remains in the building. Residents feel unsafe. Further delays despite safety concerns place responsibility on the agencies overseeing this case. What action is being taken now?
