WANTED WEDNESDAY: Do you recognize these cashless crooks?
On Tuesday, April 21, our two cashless crooks visited a dollar store on Normandy Boulevard to ‘buy’ some gift cards. We use the term ‘buy’ loosely, because they didn’t plan to pay for what they were shopping for.
The two picked out a gift card and approached the cashier, ready to pay with ‘paperless cash’. The cashless crooks explained to the cashier how to complete the transaction, and it went through. That’s when our cashless crooks grabbed two more gift cards and had the cashier repeat the process.
In less than 3 minutes, the two had almost $1,500 in gift cards. The only problem was they hadn’t actually paid.
When our cashless crooks got greedy and went to grab a fourth gift card, the cashier decided to call the manager for assistance. Our cashless crooks took their three gift cards and took off. The manager checked the transactions, and it showed the three gift cards had not actually been paid for.
Fraud isn’t funny, Jacksonville.
