Billionaire ex-CEO of Google Eric Schmidt fails to read the room, championing artificial intelligence’s restructuring of society at the University of Arizona graduation ceremony Friday night in his speech as commencement speaker. Schmidt was met with merciless boos and jeers from the graduating students at every mention of AI. AI is expected to replace around 15 million U.S. jobs by 2030.

@tymofii I can agree to that, Managers are optimizing for what they can easily measure (headcount) instead of Output which is what I feel actually matters.

@graphlinkz Most managers don't know how to measure AI-augmented output, so they default to headcount reduction. It's a safer pivot for quarterly reports.

Random question: Instead of companies downsizing in the name of AI efficiency, why don’t they hire more people who know how to leverage AI? Keep the team size the same (or even grow it) and quadruple the output.
