Andy Reid said, "You can compete and win if the coach is teaching the player." "You get the players teaching the players, now you can really go and compete for championships." The best teams have players lead. They set the standard. ( @TheAthletic)

“That’s job number one as coaches. What is the best way for them to learn? How do we motivate them? You get a guy that got a lot of talent. Why does it work out? If you really believe in the coaches you have, what your teaching and how to go about it,” Dan Campbell Trust wins.

Every player wants success, but only a few are willing to work for it. Coaches look for the commitment, the discipline—because talk fades, but effort tells the truth.

John Harbaugh said, "You have to come to the realization that you don't drive the car all of the time... You've got to have faith, trust, and belief. You've got to empower the people around you." Great leaders believe they serve the team. John defines servant leadership as: "Do whatever you can to help others be their best." He knows that leadership isn't about receiving anything from your team, but being there to give to your team. John Harbaugh's 6 Principles for Servant Leadership: 1. You don't drive the car all of the time This is the art of letting go as a leader. You have to have faith and trust your team. Empower them, love them, and care for them. You have to be smart, tough, and use good judgment. It should be easy to serve them and want to see them at their best. 2. It shouldn’t be about where it takes you, it should be about where it takes us It isn't about what you can accomplish, but asking what can we accomplish together. Ask yourself what can we build together that is special and can last? The goal should be to make it bigger than just the bottom line, whether that is winning games or making money. 3. Check your own heart It should be about connecting and truly caring about your team. Ask yourself what is your motivation and intention behind what you are doing. Do you really care about your team? Are you showing it? Because you should. 4. Get feedback from everyone Serve the team by learning from the team. John Harbaugh says the 4 most important words he asks someone is "What do you think?" • Ask for their ideas on improvement, growth, and change. • Ask if they are happy and they feel they are doing their best. • Let their voice be heard. 5. Find out who you need to be helping It’s easy to just sit back and wait around, but you need to take action. You need to help people get to where they need to be. Ask: • How are we doing? • Where are we not performing? • Are people having problems where I can help? These are the areas where you need to look for improvement. 6. How we act around each other It shouldn't just be about yourself, but it should be about the team. You should have a great attitude, be collaborative, and work together. If you can help each other accomplish what you need then you have a chance to be great. Ask: • Are we helping each other? • Are we connecting? Servant leadership is the art of letting go and realizing that the real power of servant leadership is empowering others, caring for others, and giving them what they need. - - - Follow @coachajkings for more posts like this!

Kirby Smart uses ONE statistic from Gallup to help him manage his team's culture. He knows that everyone affects the culture. He shares this number with his leadership team and it helps him categorize the team into 3 groups. The 3 groups are: • Engaged - They are loyal and productive. • Not Engaged - They are just putting in the time. • Actively Disengaged - They are unhappy and spreading their discontent. So why does Kirby care? He said, "In essence, then, the CEO’s job is to improve the ratio of engaged to actively disengaged workers." His job is to figure out to level people up from: • Not Engaged → Engaged or • Actively Disengaged → Not Engaged According to the latest Gallup study, the average for most organizations are: • Engaged = 30% • Not Engaged = 52% • Actively Disengaged = 17% He is constantly looking at his team to see what group they fall into. He said, "I think that the organization starts at the top. And if you hold people accountable, and you hold people to a standard that you can make them understand they can move from actively disengaged, to not engaged and then hopefully to engaged." Takeaway: Everyone affects the culture. Your culture is everything. It's your behaviors and what you are willing to accept. What you reinforce is what the culture will sustain. When people are negative and actively disengaged then this will spread when you allow it. This affects the confidence and attitudes of everyone. "You're either coaching it or allowing it to happen." - Kirby Smart - - - Follow @coachajkings for more posts like this!

Why do stronger players run slower! 🥲 🙋🏿‍♂️Hands up if you have observed athletes get stronger in the gym , vertical jump higher, broad jump further , but with little to no impact on their speed. 😖 🚩Heavy squats , and deadlifts are great for physical conditioning but often this can be at the detriment to coordination and speed development🚩 ❌To lift close to maximal weights , athletes often sacrifice form for force. ❌ 🚩They hinge using their back more than their hip extensors. 🚩 🫠They illustrate poor trunk and shin discipline. 🫠 ❌They fail to use their BUM BEFORE BACK❌ 💡Proximal to Distal Sequencing during leg drive is an effective way to use the pelvis as an engine. This encourages appropriate folding/unfolding, winding/unwinding and essentially loading and exploding in the desired DIRECTION.💡 🤨The weight room rewards slow, vertical forces. 🧐 ✅Useful for neural drive, explosive strength and often great displays of force production✅ 🧭The weight room doesn’t discriminate DIRECTION of force production. 🧭 👉🏾👈🏾👆🏾👇🏾Even when selecting exercises focused on horizontal muscles (posterior chain), we have a choice on how to express our hips. 👇🏾👆🏾👈🏾👉🏾 💡Trunk Discipline and Shin Discipline encourage appropriate orientation of your force (Horizontal Projection). Stability at the proximal ends provides a foundation for efficient and effective triple joint extension (Sequencing > Full Extension)💡 💡The weight room can encourage a more quad dominant / ground based strategy , rewarding strong trunk extension (like a back hyper) which can ultimately shift your projection vertically.💡 🔥Creat large forces , in a short time , in the right DIRECTION !🔥 🙋🏿‍♂️Question time ❓ What coaching or programming strategies can you use to encourage proper hip hinging in the gym, in order to make your athletes faster on the grass?
