@awaywithkiran Campus already has jackels in the campus. IIT Madras campus is adjacent to Guindy National Park. They used to have 100+ black bucks, population went down below 10 due to stray dogs hunting

IIT-Madras reports rise in Blackbuck population(12 to 77). They were about to go extinct on 2018. Removing stray dogs, creating open space, grassland, & speed limit helped to revive blackbuck population. IIT-M has to fight multiple court battle against rich AC room dog lovers 1/2

Shekar Dattatri made "Mindless Mining: The Tragedy of Kudremukh" and didn't broadcast it to mass audiences. He showed it to judges, ministers, and forest officials. The mine's lease was not renewed. The national park was protected. Impact over viewership.

Mike Pandey filmed the whale shark slaughter in Gujarat and called the film "Shores of Silence" (1999). Two years later, the whale shark was listed under India's Wildlife Protection Act. One documentary. One legislative change. That's the template.

Before Netflix had a wildlife category. Before BBC Natural History came to India. Before any of it — three filmmakers were in the field with limited budgets, unfriendly bureaucracies, and the conviction that the right footage shown to the right people could change laws. A thread. 🎬🐘

The science is clear: trees cool cities, stabilise ecosystems, save lives. Yet, across India, amid record-breaking heat that is about to get worse, millions of trees are being removed, turning a climate crisis into a public health emergency, writes @iyerkavi article-14.com/post/amid-a-re…

The “great nicobar” development project include -A thermal power plant that will produce coal ash -Data centre that will guzzle water and emit heat in sensitive bio diverse zone -Gouge corals and plant them in other places (no joke, the doc state it) -Take over the only nesting site and the water route that leads to it of the leather back turtles -Pave sea fronts with concrete that are nests of an amazing native bird - megapod -chop off the most unique to this island of million years old canopy trees. One has to be depraved to be destroying this most sensitive bio diversity hotspot for resorts, data centre and what not. The politics for environmental protection has to rise up and that’s why happy to see him talking about it. @RahulGandhi
Rahul Gandhi@RahulGandhi

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

A rare jewel of the Eastern Ghats is finally getting the attention it deserves. Under the able leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri @ncbn garu and the strong direction of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri @PawanKalyan garu, The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, in collaboration with the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, has initiated a conservation status survey of the Peacock Tarantula (Poecilotheria metallica) in the vast landscape of the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR). This species is Critically Endangered and endemic to a very small region of eastern ghats in Andhra Pradesh, making it one of world's most unique and vulnerable arachnids. Understanding its distribution and population is a crucial step toward securing its future in the wild. Because conservation isn’t just about the iconic species — it’s also about protecting the rare, the endemic, and the irreplaceable. This is one of many such stories to come. #Conservation #PawanKalyanTransformsAP

At many restaurants, the moment you sit down, there’s already a bottle of water placed on your table. Earlier, it used to be basic mineral water worth ₹15. Now, more often than not, it’s a ₹60 bottle or a premium label like Vedica or Himalayan sitting there by default. When something is already placed in front of you, it feels like the default choice. Saying no suddenly requires effort. Asking for a cheaper option feels awkward, so people just go with what’s already there. Customers end up spending more without ever actively choosing to. The fair approach would be to ask: “Would you like regular RO water or bottled water?” But that small question brings awareness. And awareness usually reduces unnecessary spending. So instead, the bottle is placed quietly, and the decision is made for you.

I spoke to Ella, who explained what life was like under the current regime in Iran. “If you ask for the right to speak… to wear what you want, they’re gonna kill you, they’re gonna torture you.” The protesters are simply asking for “their freedom, their humanity”

This is Tehran. Not a concert. Not a carnival. These mobile phones, raised and lit in unison, are not connected to the internet. Their connection to the world has been completely cut. They are rising up against the authoritarian and theocratic dictatorship ruling Iran. Hundreds have been gunned down over just the past few nights, yet they keep coming back to the streets. For freedom. For a better tomorrow. These hands, these lights moving through the darkness, are sending a signal to the world: See us. Do not abandon us in this darkness, without internet.
