Today's decision delivers on the Programme for Government commitment to end the issuing of new gas exploration licences, and "sends a powerful message within Ireland and internationally that Ireland is moving away from fossil fuels towards a renewable future," says Minister Ryan.

Minister @EamonRyan secured cabinet approval today to introduce a ban on new oil and natural gas exploration. With immediate effect the Department no longer accepts new applications for exploration licences for natural gas or oil. From today, Ireland will #KeepItInTheGround. 🌍
