Film "Trainspotting" helps Mount Sinai researchers ID brain region biased towards drug cues & trtmnt effects in individuals w heroin use disorder; establishes new paradigm for studying drug addiction w naturalistic stimuli resembling real experiences. 👉mountsinai.org/about/newsroom…

Kronberg et al. measured fMRI responses to a drug-themed movie in individuals with heroin use disorder. Responses in the OFC were biased towards drug scenes at baseline; reductions in this bias correlated with reductions in craving after treatment. tinyurl.com/5xdt8ka8

"What in your opinion is the most beautiful scientific piece of research in the field of computational neuroscience in the last 40 years?" I've asked this of panelists in the latest Gatsby meeting this past week, and I thought it would be interesting to share the responses:

@greg_kronberg It's on the list! Some data suggests people get better behavioral effects when they match stimulation to each individual's (e.g.,) alpha frequency, rather than 10 Hz for all, so I think it might! Still need to be careful though, as the dominant freq. can drift w/in a session.

@andpru agreed. although i'm really not sure what it means to play center vs forward anymore... other than being a slightly larger human😅 might be time to scrap these labels for awards teams

@greg_kronberg Yes! We will release the code once this work is published. We are also planning to release a generic hyperalignment package soon.

Excited to share our work on an individualized fine-grained model of brain functional organization, the Individualized Neural Tuning (INT) model, which is highly reliable, precise, and generalizable to new stimuli and participants biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
