Comments questioning the nationality of France’s players have drawn backlash from French officials and others, reigniting a debate over racism and representation in soccer.

Overheard in my local Massachusetts liberal coffee shop: “They seem serious about wanting to arrest and deport Mamdani.” “You can’t blame them for fighting fire with fire. We’ve called them fascists for years, and we all know they’re not actual Nazis. Now they’re calling Mamdani a communist. They don’t really believe he’s a communist. It’s all just rhetoric.” “So you don’t think they want to deport him?” “No. Mamdani is as American as apple pie. His dad teaches at Columbia. They know that. Politics today is all about scoring points.” Who wants to tell them?

It was a privilege to speak with my fellow senior enlisted leaders and help kick off the Command Sergeants Major Advisory Council conference at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center in Starke, Florida. For two days, they are addressing core issues affecting our Soldiers by streamlining systems, updating policies, and instituting necessary reforms for the enlisted force.  It’s always great to speak with senior enlisted leaders deeply committed to taking care of our Soldiers. I’m proud of their professionalism and steadfast focus on readiness and the future of our force.

I need to break it to the coddled leftists who’ve grown up in an environment of safety, security, and the rule of law, but if you want to normalize taking pleasure in the deaths of political opponents, it’s probably not you unarmed and untrained people who can’t even manage to do a push-up who will be doing the celebrating in the end. Remember, the norms of civility and the rule of law that you defecate upon are not here to protect people like us from you. It’s to protect you from people like us. You’ve been warned.
