This is a huge, important, world-changing technological innovation out of China.

@SenTedCruz The economic boom from brining those people and those resources back into global commerce along the rebuilding of those countries with ready capital from their own wealth expats will be massive.

In the next 6 months, we could see new governments in Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba. If we end up with governments in those countries that want to be friends with America, that’d be the biggest geopolitical shift since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

@Noahpinion Many people (I assume mostly American) have no idea that the vast majority of people in this world don’t live in single family house, so overnight house charging is not really a solution.

But great accomplishments don’t sell in Congress, job programs with jobs flowing to key districts is what gets you funding. Lyndon Johnson, the master of the Senate, understood this which is when he help create NASA he brought Huntsville into NASA and then as VP created JSC in the house speaker’s district and built Stennis in Mississippi, Goddard in Maryland, Ames and JPL in California. To ensue Congress, and especially key members in Congress, would have a vested self interest in keeping NASA funded after Project Apollo. It’s what saved NASA over the decades from being downsized into irrelevance.

“I’m glad to see people across the country engaged in working on it, but I’m not I’m not necessarily happy to see it flouted as a jobs program instead of a success for the American taxpayers’ investment,” Autry said. “That doesn’t warm my heart.”

@ThomasLMatula @Simberg_Space Yep but my comment is about how it is presented… and this is a choice to present it as a jobs program not as the great accomplishment it will be.

But that is what it has always been, from the Space Shuttle, the ISS, Project Constellation and now Project Artemis. All survived because they kept money flowing to Congressional Districts after Project Apollo ended. We could have had a very effective and robust space program after Apollo, using the remaining Saturn Vs and Saturn 1Bs to support a series of space stations while easing into reusable spacecraft with smaller Dyna-Soar based designs. But the cash flows to the Congressional Districts would have been far less without those massive flagship programs.

China's long range fishing fleet is causing widespread disaster around the world. This is off the coast of Peru. They don't care, they catch everything and wipe out the local fish population. Poor countries cannot stop them. China is a parasite.
