@ShadesOfRani @meganmesserly What line? There is no line. There is no attorney they could hire, no form they could fill out, and certainly no line to wait in to come in legally. Immigration restrictions are like a caste system, privilege based on place of birth.

dishwashers and landscapers too. every SINGLE illegal MUST go. every dishwasher, landscaper, roofer, tamale maker is an INSULT to the dupes who took the time, hired the attorneys, filled out the paperwork and waited inline to come here legally. not to mention the citizens their cheap illegal labor undercuts.

Here at the Culinary Union’s headquarters this morning, ahead of POTUS’s event. Getting a nice little preview of what a working-class message from Dems might look like heading into 2028: fair tariffs, secure borders, deportations of criminals — not dishwashers and landscapers. “At the end of the day, the American people elected Trump twice, because the truth is, Democrats were tone deaf and they weren't listening to working class voters, and the result of that is that President Trump has been terrible for the economy and terrible for working class,” said Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge.

“AI and robots are coming for human jobs. Worker protections are being eroded. There are companies that think exploitation is a viable business model. They are wrong,” Mamdani said. Mayor told @CityAndStateNY last week he doesn’t use any AI: cityandstateny.com/personality/20…

“When we talk about the importance of taking on the crisis of income inequality, we know that the most effective tool to do so is increasing union density,” Mayor Mamdani said at the launch of Union Now - a new org supporting workers trying to organize and collectively bargain.

@NY_LBSS @norbertjmichel @DominicJPino Free trade isn't helping who? It is certainly helping consumers with more choices and better prices. It is helping businesses that rely on global raw materials, components, and supply chains. Kinda seems like free trade is working exactly how it is supposed to.

@norbertjmichel @DominicJPino Ok we are more productive. Why are we making more and more stuff offshore and letting our geo political enemy decide if we can have manufacturing? Kinda seems like free trade isn’t helping here.

Manufacturing jobs, as a share of total employment, have been declining since the 1940s. It’s a long-term decline driven by higher productivity. It has nothing to do with deregulation in the 1970s or 1980s, the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, or even China’s ascension to the World Trade Organization in 2001. Nothing. Nada. You can even forecast the share of manufacturing employment for 2015, the year prior to the first Trump administration, almost perfectly, using data that spans 1950 to 1980. With just a simple linear trend. None of those popular (populists?) explainer-events help you make that forecast.

@norbertjmichel Gaslighting: “Increasing productivity explains all job loss”. No it does not. In 1980 we produced 80% of the manufacturing goods we consumed. Today: only 52%. If we produced a larger share, there would be more manufacturing jobs. More than in 1980.

Birthright citizenship is so fucking stupid that we have midwit scam artists from China to Turkey sending pregnant women to American hospitals to exploit it. And Americans are so fucking stupid that they’re pinning the outcome on 9 old lawyers ‘interpreting’ 150 yr old words.

@gregworrel @Hari374432891 @FischerKing64 If the Chinese government is encouraging scammers to have Chinese parents having children born in the US and then immediately returning to China with the child in order to create a fifth column against the United States later, that’s a serious problem that has to get fixed.

Would love to win obviously, but this has already been an all timer of a season. Once you get this far it’s even more of a crap shoot. Getting this far is all you can ask for. Everything from here is gravy.

@Wombats4eva @RichardHanania Oh it's a terrible term for policy, far too vague. But pretty good as a personal heuristic. Show someone a pop tart and a jar of hummus and ask what they would call processed.

The whole concept of "processed food" seems to be fake. I always assumed excitement over this issue was based on the nature fallacy, pushed by the same types who believe vaccines are bad and big corporations are hiding the cure for cancer.

@Avggirltaxpayer @NJGov Lose jobs? You don't think there are more useful jobs for people to do than pumping gas when every other state in the country has no such jobs?

@NJGov Does anyone actually think the cost of gasoline will go down when the cost of labor goes down? Or do we all maybe think that the labor savings will be offset by new gas taxes? So we will lose jobs, lose the luxury of full risk, gasoline, and then pay the same amount at the pump.

Today, we are announcing plans to lift the statewide ban on self-service gas stations in New Jersey. We encourage New Jerseyans to familiarize themselves with gas pumps as this change is in effect immediately, April 1, 2026.

@twinhockeydad @nagz_the_dog @JustinWolfers Lol, Good catch. I meant about zero. Grok: "Meta-analysis of regional labor markets: A 1% increase in immigrants leads to only a ~0.024% decline in native employment (very close to zero)." "Immigrants often take physically demanding or entry-level roles; natives upgrade"

Immigrants weren’t just filling existing jobs; they were helping create them. That’s Econ 101: jobs are not a fixed pie. More people means more customers, more demand, more businesses expanding, and yes, more hiring.
