@MuseumCommodore Could never understand why they didn't bolt a pair of SIDs into Paula. LSID and RSID if you will. 4 channels of digital stereo + 6 channels of synthesis would have been fantastic. MOS owned the tech so why not?

@TheMekon_Venus Wouldn't pay Google a mouldy bean for anything. Weaned myself off Gmail a couple of years ago, weaning myself off Microsoft now.
Q: How far will Google push the enshittification of YouTube before folks start deserting it?
It only took a week for Digg to die.

I pay for YouTube premium.
But videos are full of increasingly longer embedded adverts.
YouTube keeps polluting my feed with shorts I never watch.
With no setting to change this.
Now my feed is constantly pushing members only videos
I don’t want to pay more. I already pay more for YouTube than Netflix.
Nor do I want a feed that’s more about monetising every dime out of me than giving me the content I want.

Are you old enough to have low-level formatted a drive?
I don't mean just format your hard drive - I mean in the old days of MFM and ST-506 when you and the controller BIOS conspired to lay down the actual tracks and sectors on the media itself. Then you'd partition it and format the partitions.
These days, drives are all pre-formatted, and if I'm not mistaken, there's no way to low-level format a SATA drive, for example.

This has to be the door mat Butcher from ‘The Boys’ would have.

@TheMekon_Venus It's dead to me anyway. Auntie Beeb passed away years ago. What we have now is the rotting re-animated corpse.

The BBC’s funding model is back under the spotlight once again next week.
Lisa Nandy, the Secretary of State for Culture, has been talking about proposals due to be unveiled shortly.
While the idea of funding the BBC through general taxation appears to be off the table( for now) a sliding scale licence fee based on house prices is reportedly being considered.
A broadband tax has been floated in the past, forcing everyone to pay regardless of usage. It would be hugely unpopular, and for now at least, it doesn’t seem to be on the agenda.
The reality is that a growing number of UK residents simply don’t use BBC services and are perfectly happy not watching live TV. Under the current system, they don’t need a licence. Many of these same households, however, willingly pay for Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+, which they see as good value.
Advertising is another option being explored. This would be a major blow to Channel 4 and ITV, and would represent the biggest structural change to the BBC since its inception.
A partial subscription model… placing some content behind a paywall is also expected to be considered.
Everyone has a view on how the BBC should modernise its funding in a fair way. But one thing seems clear: change is coming in the years ahead.

English

@TheMekon_Venus I suppose it would be better if I paid the license fee? No? Well Auntie Beeb can continue to go and fuck herself.
English

It’s official… The BBC has officially stopped even trying.

@CommodoreBlog @WindowsLatest @Hemigod85 Windows 7 = Peak windows. Everything after is window dressing and shit thrown on the screen. When the OS gets in the way of what I want, it’s shit.
How about sorting the Green Bar of Death in Windows Explorer, and all the issues in OneDrive?
I might as well shout into the void.

Microsoft is moving forward with its plans to turn Windows 11 into an AI operating system.
Windows 11 is testing a new toggle in Settings > System > AI components called “Experimental agentic features.”
When this is on, AI apps like Copilot can run in a special “agent workspace” with their own Windows account. In that space, the agent can click, type, scroll, open apps and work on your files in the background, while you keep using your normal desktop.
By default, when the feature is enabled, agents can get read/write access to your Documents, Downloads, Desktop, Pictures, Music and Videos folders.
This feature is experimental and available to testers only (not in production, and is completely optional).
"We recommend that you only enable this feature if you understand the security implications..." Microsoft confirmed.

@TheMekon_Venus Mine ended up a DX4/100. Intel DX/33 through a Cyrix DX2/66. Drop the clock down to 50 and quad pumped internal clock in the CPU. Lose a bit of memory bandwidth but it didn't matter.
It was a good upgrade path back in the day.

@TheMekon_Venus @RichOnTheRadio @TheBritLad Binned off Netflix as well. “Cuties” sealed that deal for me. Bye bye miss you not. Spend more time searching for something worth watching than actually watching.
English

@RichOnTheRadio @grumpstation @TheBritLad It also annoys me seeing so many BBC shows on Netflix.
Like we’ve already paid for them.
English

@TheMekon_Venus @TheBritLad Do it! I did. Same reason as you. Don't watch any live TV, don't use iPlayer, don't listen to the radio. No point.
I kept it for Doctor Who until that went to shit and "Why am I paying for this crap?"
The Beeb I knew and loved died years ago. Would happily pay to see that again.
English

Yep.. and considering I never watch or use BBC services anymore.. or watch any live tv.
I think I’m about to become another.
Just preparing for the barrage of harassment we will get.
It’s the only reason we still have one.. my other half doesn’t want the hassle.
Pure state intimidation and blackmail.
