Where is the white privilege everyone talks about?? My 22-year-old son now wants to attend Aviation Mechanic School. It costs $40,000. They do not accept student aid. The only grants are these: 332 Heritage Foundation, Black Pilots of America, Latino Pilot Association, National Gay Pilot Association, Organization of Black Professionals, Professional Asian Pilots, Women in Aviation. So how is an average young white straight male supposed to go without me co-signing a full loan? 🤦‍♀️

@coolbroyo420 @geeknikJT @amylcris To set the record straight - nobody asserted that minorities don't have to serve to earn the GI Bill. The assertion is that only caucasians don't have access to those grant funds, and need to find alternative sources...one of which was the military.

They asserted that minorities don't have to serve to earn the GI Bill. I showed him that blacks actually served at higher rates than their population percentage.

@kingguyo @amylcris I'm not going to pretend that things are or would be perfect...or to pretend to be smart enough to know the exact right answer. I do know we used to be closer than we are now, and I don't think perpetuating different opportunities by color/race should continue.

@coolbroyo420 @amylcris That stat has nothing to do with the original scenario or contention. Reread from the beginning - this is not about the military - that is a tangential topic. This is about prohibiting someone from having access to the same benefits, simply based upon race.

@ThaMob The point of this discussion is, each person should qualify or not qualify for benefits, etc. based upon standard facts and conditions, not based upon anyone's race.

@kingguyo @amylcris I do. I also know that two wrongs don't make a right - racism is racism. At what point do we stop taking skin color into account and start making decisions based upon objective facts (economic need, demonstrated capability, etc.) and not skin color?

@kingguyo @amylcris Ok, so take away the risk. Still have to sign up for a commitment others don't. Reverse the scenario and tell me if it would be okay for whites to get the grants, with all others needing to do extra things. No, it wouldn't. So, why is this okay?
