Ethiopian health professionals currently are being enslaved — doctors working for less than $100/month, unpaid, detained, and silenced!

Stand strong, health workers! Returning to work now means abandoning colleagues detained & dismissed for demanding basic rights. Stay united. Stay firm. Justice has not yet been served. #EthiopianHealthStrike #ethiomedprotest

Forcing interns & residents out of their dorms for not showing up to work isn’t a solution—it’s an escalation. Arrests won't fix a broken system. This only exposes how little respect is shown to the very professionals meant to uphold it.#EthiopianHealthStrike #EthioMedProtest

Six years ago, Ethiopian health professionals staged a protest to have their grievances heard. At the time, they explained that the shortages of medical supplies, which had led them to raise complaints, were severely hampering their ability to perform their duties. Six years later, the situation has worsened from bad to worse — shifting from concerns about a lack of medical supplies to now saying: “We’re starving, we’re thirsty, and we can’t even afford to educate our children.” This shows just how deeply livelihoods have deteriorated — not only for health professionals but for many other segments of society. Those who once lived a so-called “better life” are now falling into poverty, while those already in poverty are struggling to survive even a single day. Repeated claims that a "human-centered" approach is being followed do not bring prosperity or wealth to the public. A truly impactful national policy should deliver meaningful change, not perpetuate suffering. Even now, failing to prioritize what matters most is a mark of poor judgment. Dismantle Ethnic Federalism in Ethiopia Movement

THE WHITE REVOLUTION IN ETHIOPIA : (By N.A) The white coat (white gown) is a symbol of the medical profession . It is considered to be a sign of cleanliness ,symbol of professionalism , integrity and highest commitment to caring for the sick. The white coat also known as lab coat helped to distinguish doctors from charlatans ( quack doctors). Until the late 1800 hundreds , doctors typically wore dark clothes . The adoption of white coats or uniforms began as advances in surgery and germ theory were made emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in medicine. Lately, medical students were allowed to wear white coats as well. The medical profession is the most respected profession worldwide followed by the legal profession. Doctors are the only professionals who have the right and acceptance by the public to see and treat fellow human beings “naked” in a matter of only few minutes of encounter and acquaintance or friendship. No human being is willing to exhibit his/ her sacred body to an outsider or any other professional in a very few minutes of relationships, when trust, confidence and bond is formed. This is what makes the medical profession so unique in society. The Ethiopian doctors are uprising against the brutal regime for extremely legitimate reasons. They are asking the regime to improve their salaries in order to be able to serve the people effectively and efficiently. A regime that is purchasing any available weapon systems from any markets in the world, to kill the people it governs, rejects the most legitimate and noble requests the doctors presented. The Ethiopian medical doctors are paid around seventy American dollars monthly as regards to the recent devaluation of Ethiopian currency( the Birr). The regime threatens and frightens the doctors to bring foreign doctors and replace them, should they continue the “white revolution “. Is there a single medical doctor in the world who can sign a contract to work in Ethiopia for less the hundred US dollars? The Ethiopian people including the diaspora must stand with the Ethiopian medical doctors in their rightful, legitimate and peaceful demands to stop the savage attempts of the regime to starve these doctors who are working to provide the most sacred and dignified service to the public and also the regime’s wounded soldiers. Support the white revolution Stand with the medical doctors.
