Congratulations to #Algeria on eliminating trachoma, the leading infectious cause of blindness worldwide. Twenty-nine countries globally, including 10 in @WHOAFRO, now have achieved this significant milestone. This progress demonstrates what can be achieved through sustained political commitment and the dedicated leadership of health professionals on the ground. Together, we can accelerate the elimination of neglected tropical diseases and advance a healthier, more resilient future for all. تهانينا للجزائر! who.int/news/item/23-0…

📉 Health is a human right, yet women’s health is stuck in a massive research gap. Only 7% of healthcare research focuses on conditions specific to women, stalling economies and costing lives. This #WorldHealthDay, join @UNFPA to close the gap: unf.pa/whde

'Male masturbation may have an adaptive benefit: it flushes out damaged, stored sperm.' New Oxford research suggests that the longer sperm are stored before ejaculation, the lower their quality, with implications for men trying to conceive and IVF treatment. Find out more ⬇️

Obesity is a chronic disease affecting more than 1 billion people globally. Last December, @WHO issued the first guideline on the use of GLP-1 therapies for treating obesity in adults as part of a comprehensive approach that includes healthy diets, regular physical activity and support from health professionals. Medication alone will not reverse obesity. Through the WHO Acceleration Plan to Stop Obesity, we are supporting 34 frontrunner countries, representing 1.3 billion people, to reduce obesity prevalence across all age groups by 5% by 2030. From taxing sugar sweetened beverages in Mauritius to integrating obesity care into primary health systems in South Africa – progress is happening. I call on countries to scale up action to prevent and treat obesity across the life course, and across all of society.
