A family of five who sold all their belongings and borrowed ₦20 million to relocate to the UK have reportedly been deported. The family included a husband, wife, two children, and the wife’s late sister’s daughter. After spending about two years in the UK, the wife allegedly decided to act on past grievances against her husband. Since she was the main visa holder with a work permit and the rest were dependents, she reported to authorities that she wanted to remove her husband from her visa, effectively ending their marriage. The husband was then notified to leave the country within a short period. Faced with debt and uncertainty, he sought legal help and revealed that one of the children was not biologically theirs and had not been legally adopted or declared during their relocation process. Authorities followed up, and DNA tests confirmed the child was not related to either of them. This violation led to legal consequences, and despite attempts to reverse the situation, the case had already escalated. In the end, the entire family was deported back to Nigeria.

Why is the Royal Family rolling out the British royal treatment for the leader of Nigeria, who was elected on a controversial Muslim–Muslim ticket and has faced longstanding corruption allegations, while thousands of Christians are being killed in attacks targeting their faith?

The Upstream and Downstream Oil and Gas CEOs and Execs will openly back PBAT in 2027. This will happen across Manufacturing, energy, Construction, Banking, investment, Fintech, Telco and the entire corporate Nigeria. Those of you who cancel people, be bold enough to cancel your bosses and resign.

Dear Nnaji and Bright Rich (AKA Chukwudi on your profile), Thank you for your feedbacks. I know that Peter Obi did not build a single nursery, primary, or secondary school, or a university, in his eight years as Governor of Anambra, which both your profiles list as your state. Therefore, I sympathise with your inability to read, comprehend, and engage in critical thinking. If you can get someone who can read to reread what you are responding to, they would tell you that I said, "In total, Nigeria has over 36,000 Primary Healthcare Centres." You will agree with me that it would be logistically difficult to post photos of all 36,000, so I posted just three as examples. I encourage both of you to enrol in adult education classes to undo the damage Peter Obi did to you by failing to invest in building schools, even whilst building breweries. Finally, if you guys can learn to be less abusive and abrasive, perhaps you might get along better with other Nigerians. Thanks again, and may God bless you both. Reno Omokri Gospeller. I removed forex and petrol subsidies in the interest of Nigeria. No looking back – Pres. Tinubu President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidies and implement wide-ranging economic reforms, insisting the actions were taken in the best interest of Nigeria and will not be reversed. Speaking during a meeting with World Bank officials, Tinubu said the reforms were necessary to address long-standing structural problems in the economy, even though they initially caused hardship for citizens. He acknowledged that the early phase of the reforms was painful but maintained that sustained progress requires commitment and resilience. According to him, Nigeria cannot afford to abandon difficult but necessary decisions. The president emphasized the need to strengthen the economy by focusing on agriculture, youth empowerment, and large-scale mechanisation, noting that Nigeria’s vast arable land and young population remain key assets for growth. Tinubu also highlighted plans to support farmers through improved seedlings, access to fertilizers, regional mechanisation centres, and the expansion of small-scale farmers into cooperatives to improve productivity and market access. Tinubu stressed that economic reform is a continuous process, adding that his government has “its hands on the plough” and will not look back.

2026: The Collapse Continues In January 2025, we witnessed the first grid collapse of that year, which was followed by several other collapses. Now in January, 2026 the national shame has commenced with yesterday's collapse. It is utterly disappointing that for three consecutive years—from 2023 to 2025—our nation has been ranked as having the least access to electricity globally, with nearly 100 million citizens left without power. When we compare our situation to other African nations, the disparity is stark. South Africa, with its population of about 64 million, generates and distributes over 40,000 megawatts. Egypt, with about 115 million population, also generates over 40,000 megawatts. Algeria, with around 48 million population, generates and distributes over 50,000 megawatts. Meanwhile, Nigeria, the giant of Africa and its most populous nation with over 240 million people, produces a mere 5,000 megawatts—an absurdly low figure that severely hampers our productivity. This power crisis is a direct result of continuous leadership failures. The power sector is critical and requires competent and committed leadership to thrive. As we look towards 2027, Nigeria must prioritise competence and empathy in its leadership. It is time to elect individuals with the capacity and dedication necessary to initiate a significant turnaround for our nation. Anything less is unacceptable. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

We’re already 18 days into 2026. If you’re serious about japa but don’t have money, you should have applied to at least 20 scholarships by now. I post scholarships daily on this page, and many are still open. I also run a free WhatsApp group where I mentor people at no cost. We have Q&A sessions every Saturdays and now Sundays, and I personally answer questions. It’s been great so far. If you’re in the WhatsApp group, share a brief experience there so far, if you want to join, type “I’m interested”
