Dear Anand - I believe for this situation - we are ourselves to blame on - no tourist will come if our cities are not clean - if there are huge traffic issues - like these there are many basic issues which need to be addressed - we need to organise ourselves first - then we can expect tourism to grow

India boasts 8,000 years of civilization, 42 UNESCO World Heritage sites, dozens of languages, endless cuisines, and spiritual landmarks like Bodh Gaya. Yet Paris, just one city, attracts more than double the foreign tourists India as a whole receives. Bodh Gaya The place where Buddha attained enlightenment, sacred to 535 million Buddhists, runs on a budget smaller than what Bollywood splurged on Adipurush. That sums up our priorities. Hotel famine India has only 0.2 million hotel rooms. China has 20 million. We claim to be a tourism powerhouse, but we cannot even house the tourists. Tax madness GST is 18% on hotels with restaurants, but only 5% for standalone restaurants. Basically, the government punishes the sector it claims to promote. Skill vacuum The target was 400 million skilled workers by 2022. We barely trained 14 million. Tourists bring dollars, but we do not have enough trained people to even serve them properly. Despite being most populated country. Government hotel joke The state still owns 495 hotels, most of them running at a loss. Bureaucrats running hospitality is like asking blind men to direct traffic. Disaster is guaranteed. India’s ground reality Here, Atithi Devo Bhava is a slogan, not a practice. On the ground, foreigners are often overcharged, hassled, and left unimpressed by our civic sense. Indifference and social media videos greet them before our temples and forts do. The bitter truth India does not lack heritage, culture, or spirituality. What we lack is intent, vision, and execution. My travel experience Having visited Europe, the Gulf, and other parts of the world, the gap is glaring. Other countries invest in tourism & advertise relentlessly. Here we can see more political advertisements than tourism.

Today, on 13/05/2024, around 16:30, a sudden storm and heavy rain led to a devastating incident. A metal girder from a billboard, sized 70/50 meters, collapsed at Railway Petrol Pump, Samta Colony, Ghatkopar (E), injuring 37 people. Approximately 50-60 individuals are still believed to be trapped. Our officials, alongside the Fire Brigade, @mybmc, and Mahanagar Gas Ltd, are on-site conducting a search and rescue operation. #MumbaiRains
