A major reason why Titans struggle as much as they do right now in comics is because DC and most of their writers fail to really understand the appeal of what Marv Wolfman and George Perez did with their run, and that’s proven every time we get a new roster. The Teen Titans, at their best, aren’t an organization or union like the Avengers, Justice League, or even the X-men. They’re a personalized friend group who went on adventures together because they enjoyed each others company as fellow loners grappling with self identity. It’s way more intimate than most other superhero teams out there. We seem to universally understand that it’s a horrible idea to swap around Fantastic Four’s roster because the team works infinitely better with Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben. Sometimes Franklin and Valeria. They are what makes the team work, and it’s entirely unnecessary to change this status quo. The exact same concept can be applied to the Titans. If you want a superhero team that acts as a network for young DC heroes, then that’s what you have Young Justice for. Stop slapping the Titans name on every group that has a bunch of teenagers in it.
