15th mth into bootstrapping. @thebluesocial is my 3rd product having worked on it for 12 mths. Still trying to find PMF I have started building a new tool MyOG .social while I'm considering if @thebluesocial should focus solely on Bluesky or cross-post #buildinpublic

I'll note that Conductor manages all that for you in case you haven’t tried it. I use it pretty heavily now and am hardly ever dealing with these issues. For testing for example, you can spin up a web server on just that worktree and you also get a terminal that's isolated to it so you can run tests. And for merge conflicts it will take care of them all with the click of a button.

Feels powerful being able to queue tasks, let each run to completion and move on to the next. Worktrees don't work for me so I mostly work on main. Queuing is a tradeoff, I can only work on 1 task in the project at a time, but I need less intervention.

@hboon When you say "worktrees don't work for me" do you mean for some technical reason or you just don't like working on multiple projects in parallel? (For me, Conductor made this process much easier.)

@mxcl It’s actually not unlike being a team lead/manager. You (usually) don’t review every line of code. But architecture and system design? Of course.

Being obsessed with the code quality of the agent is a 2010s mindset based in an era of technical debt. There is no longer technical debt. All that needs review is software architecture. As long as what is produced conforms to that reviewing every line of code is wasting time. If you cannot design software architecture then: you no longer will have a job in software. You are replaced.

Performative "thought leader" founders are so cringe. Stop trying to talk like Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs talked like Steve Jobs from decades of compounding experiences. Your crude imitation is just amateur theatrics. Makes me think your startup might be theatre too.

Be honest, Is Vercel good for a solo indie hacker?

@chams_builds Yes. It's just that, at the same time, the same advantage/tools is available to everyone. We "just" need to use it well/more

@hboon Exactly. At the end of the day AI pushes our productivity way up, and at the same time pushes us up in the value chain..

i think it's wild how the narrative around side projects has flipped. back in the day, shipping anything solo made you a legend. now apparently every indie hacker is "just using AI" and it doesn't count as real building. like bro, using the best tools available IS the skill 😂

I'm not very happy with the code quality and I think agents bloat abstractions, have poor code aesthetics, are very prone to copy pasting code blocks and it's a mess, but at this point I stopped fighting it too hard and just moved on. The agents do not listen to my instructions in the AGENTS.md files. E.g. just as one example, no matter how many times I say something like: "Every line of code should do exactly one thing and use intermediate variables as a form of documentation" They will still "multitask" and create complex constructs where one line of code calls 2 functions and then indexes an array with the result. I think in principle I could use hooks or slash commands to clean this up but at some point just a shrug is easier. Yes I think LLM as a judge for soft rewards is in principle and long term slightly problematic (due to goodharting concerns), but in practice and for now I don't think we've picked the low hanging fruit yet here.

Thank you Sarah, my pleasure to come on the pod! And happy to do some more Q&A in the replies.

The problem for most people with using agentic coding agents is that you become a team lead/manager that can be detached from the code. The advantage of agents over human team members is you can always step in to design/review/change the code and design. So take advantage of that

NIGHT SHIFT: An autonomous coding agent that implements features while I sleep. It writes failing tests first, then spawns 7 AI reviewers (architect, QA, perf, domain expert...) for 3 rounds of adversarial review before writing a single line of implementation. Unanimous approval required. 4 QA gates after. Specs that don't pass get shelved, not shipped. Wake up in the morning to all your Features done and ready for review. Get it here: github.com/arushs/dotfile… disclaimer: This was inspired by someone's post on here I can't find anymore

@foundrceo Let the agent code while you market. 30 years of programming and I barely write code by hand anymore. The agents handle it. I just review and ship. But marketing is still a hard problem.
