60 days. $51k spent. our subscribe pixel had been firing zero events the entire time.
nobody caught it: not meta, not the agency we hired, not me. we found it because of a number that didn't match.
>meta said we had 4,084 signups.
>our db said 4,000-something more than that.
we went into the source script and the event handler had been silently failing since launch.
every dashboard told a different story while we were spending. meta said one number, ga4 said another, the agency's report didn't match either. the answer was always "give the algorithm more time to learn."
i still don't know which ad brought the handful of users who actually paid us. or which post. or which thread. or which dm from a friend who shared the link. nobody does.
we tried hiring a second agency to audit the first. that took 3 weeks and produced a 40-page deck ending with "tracking should be reviewed." we switched analytics tools twice. nothing actually closed the gap. agencies don't touch your infra, and analytics tools don't push events back to meta.
so we built our own.
