When men refer to themselves as "alpha males", I hear that in the context of software, where alpha versions are unstable, missing important features, filled with flaws, and not fit for the public.

This was a great success last year, so we just have to di it again! Make my job harder and submit some great talk proposals! We cover the breath of product development, not just programming.

I keep a diary? I suppose? on my phone where I write idle things when I'm feeling or thinking something, and I ended up writing about programming as art last night. I don't know if these are interesting thoughts, but they mean something to me - helps me understand my place 🤷‍♂️

In 2013, I built the front end of @haveibeenpwned on Bootstrap and jQuery. In 2025, @stebets and I are rebuilding it as part of a rebrand. What should we use? What are the front end tools that make web dev awesome today? (vanilla HTML, CSS and JS aside, of course)

@ndzfs @theo No, since Javascript was so far ahead that it took a while for Typescript to make a big enough dent to drop it. But it's been eating away. (Graph from GitHut showing some of the relative size between JS and TS but different from GitHub stats, so not directly comparable)

I keep seeing this argument, but it depends on the amount of distinct people who contribute to JS but not TS projects, or vice versa. I’m not sure that number is very high, because if it were, the rapid increase in TS from 2016 to 2018 would likely have caused JS to drop from the top spot, no?

I thought the Python people were supposed to be good with data? Pretending you're #1 because TS and JS are "different languages" is adorable. If we separated Python 2 and 3, neither would be in top 5.

@henriksen Yeah, it's a community non-profit. We really want to attract exceptional people, and the offer of an honorarium makes it easier to say yes.

I'd appreciate some hive-mind feedback. We'd like to do a regional speaker series with folks in tech. Maybe one per quarter? Obviously, we'll cover the flight, a night (or two) in a good hotel, and other expenses associated with being the speaker.
