Merseyside's Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell
I am absolutely appalled by the disgraceful scenes of violence in Southport tonight. This is a community which has faced unimaginable tragedy, and it is grieving. Such behaviour is abhorrent and only causes further harm and suffering. Officers are working around the clock to get justice for the families. It is completely unacceptable that they – and the wider community - are now being put in danger by those who would bring violence and disorder to our streets.

NEWS | We can confirm officers are dealing with a disturbance during a protest in Southport this evening (30 July). Officers deployed are currently dealing with criminal behaviour & violence with bottles and wheelie bins being thrown at them. More here: orlo.uk/jeqTd

@LiamThorpECHO You only seemed to suggest scrapping one based on turnout and not even the lowest. There are issues with the role, but there's a better analysis to be had than 'votes are low, so it can go'. Interesting to look at scrutiny of policing or differences compulsory voting could make

Turnout for the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner also very low at 23.8% Considering the region has a Metro Mayor, there will be many wondering why this expensive role is also needed

Awful to see the wanton destruction that has happened to the garden; it had so much work and love put into it by local children and the Ukrainian community. We will be coming together with partners in the coming days to work out how we go forward and what is next for the space.

We are so disappointed with what has happened to the Peace Garden in the Baltic. We will be working with partners over the next days to decide on next steps and how to restore our community space.

Many people who are blind, disabled, pushing prams or those who wish not to walk out into oncoming traffic do find pavements with cars parked on them unwalkable. Please see @MerseyRoads @BadParkingLpool @LiverpoolWande1 for more info

Why won't the Government give a firm timetable on publishing a response on managing pavement parking? This issue blights many communities and local councils outside of London simply don't have the powers they need to address it properly.

As I prepare for my third evening in the Town Hall for the Liverpool Council finance and resources committee, one member is currently killing the time by tucking into a McFlurry. One. Normal. Day. It’s all I ask.
