@MidwestHedgie one the one hand, sure. on the other, this kinda downplays mental health, where the size of the impact is almost definitionally different than the size of the stakes. if you have depression from p&l losses i'm not sure it's subjectively "better" than depression from patient death

There a lot of people who have suddenly gotten incredibly rich from the run up we have seen in old semi and memory stocks Have a friend whose dad was a former Western Digital employee and received a ton of stock from back in the day Through the entire run up, my friend kept trying to convince his dad to sell the shares and take profit Out of pure loyalty to the company, he refused to sell. He held it all right through the Sandisk spin out and never sold a share of that either Just on those two stocks alone, he is up nearly $3M over the last year or so

@reillocity @RSI_Lance @ChrisElloSD You can tell this is wrong by asking "would a 90-degree launch angle be better than a 30-degree launch angle?" Higher is not better "all contingent on player's speed and strength"

@RSI_Lance @ChrisElloSD That’s all contingent on player’s speed & strength. Slow player like Raleigh, who led ‘25 MLB at mean launch, should launch high but also must have strength to plant enough balls over outfielders & outfield fences to get enough extrabase hits to offset absence of singles.

Everyone is trying to fix this guy, and many think his low Launch Angle (2.8) is to blame…Is it really? Well, the MLB leader in Launch Angle is TB’s Cedric Mullins (32.7) — who also has MLB’s worst OPS (.436) among qualified players. ⚾️

@domluszczyszyn yeah i believe so too! and if you do, okay great post something with actual statistical power and a big enough sample size to actually support that point. because this is just lazy work and doesn't actually prove anything at all. can't imagine thinking 13 dots said anything

@heybronco1 do i believe production likely decreases against stronger defensive teams? like yeah? that’s not marner specific, that is a pretty obvious conclusion for any sport he had a fairly hard road in toronto. it’s been easier so far in vegas. that is literally all!!!

tweeting about marner against my better judgement... it is possible that #bothsides of the debate should simply be more sensitive to opponent defensive quality

@domluszczyszyn you know the graph sucks. look at TBL 2023 and FLA 2023 and tell me you believe in this relationship. Or Bos 2018 and Bos 2024. Or, hell, fla 2023 and Bos 2019. you also know the sample size makes any proposed causal relationship meaningless here.

@heybronco1 would be less of a relationship, wouldn’t be horizontal anaheim is extremely relevant as the weakest defensive team he’s faced. dropping them would also be weak the only point being made here is that who he’s played when he’s disappointed and when he’s thrived matter

@domluszczyszyn that is a weak af answer for a stats guy, come on. so basic. drop Anaheim and you get a fit with a ~ horizontal line. normally I respect your work but this sucks a lot

@sammyersson all this context stuff you keep leaning on, like development time lost to injuries or lack of opportunities on certain teams, is literally exactly why the list is meaningful. top prospects fail to turn into the NHLers ALL THE TIME because of those factors.

The other stupid part of this list is that it, as part of its general inability to take in context, also ignoring that every single one of these players to some extent had severe impacts to their development process pre-draft with Covid that i dont think any model has tracked.
JFresh@JFreshHockey

This is the "clock's ticking" list of 2022 1st and 2nd rounders who haven't yet established themselves as full-time NHLers and pretty much need to next season. (Bolded have played partial meaningful 20+ GP NHL seasons)

Homeschooled kids are going to rule the business world. A neighbor mentioned their 17 year old was getting into mowing/landscaping and I love giving young people a chance, so I hired him last summer. He’s got our yard looking like a home and garden magazine. Went from just him and a single mower last season to a new truck, new trailer, 2 mowers and 3 employees this year. Dude is still in “high school”.

@TylerPurcell24 I know plenty of high schoolers with businesses or hobbies that take up just as much time. Have you seen the engineering portfolios of the kind of kids that get into MIT? The startups high school kids start? Kids that play 20 hrs a week of sports? Odd take
