@MidwestHedgie one the one hand, sure. on the other, this kinda downplays mental health, where the size of the impact is almost definitionally different than the size of the stakes. if you have depression from p&l losses i'm not sure it's subjectively "better" than depression from patient death

almost everyone I know who did an Internal Medicine residency, at a very good training program, was involved with at least one preventable patient death.
the stakes of managing money are so much laughably lower than so many other jobs; it's just that the egos are way larger.

This game has transformed my life, my family’s life, my friends’ lives, and even the lives of my future grandchildren. For that, I am eternally grateful to God for the success He has given me. At the same time, make no mistake, this game is one of the most cancerous and dangerous in the world. It can ruin and cripple you financially, socially, psychologically, and emotionally in ways you cannot imagine. If you are playing this game at the highest level, not casually investing, you have to be willing and aching to answer its call at every second of the day. And honestly, monetary advancement alone is not enough to keep you in it. Something has to be socially wrong with you to be obsessed in a way that is difficult to even characterize. You have to be obsessed with solving this puzzle every single day. If that is not you, it is probably a better choice to avoid it entirely. Very similar to mishandling an AK-47, small mistakes in this game can be life altering. For my fellow lunatics, another day, and into the fray we go. Blessings and love your way 🫡

There a lot of people who have suddenly gotten incredibly rich from the run up we have seen in old semi and memory stocks
Have a friend whose dad was a former Western Digital employee and received a ton of stock from back in the day
Through the entire run up, my friend kept trying to convince his dad to sell the shares and take profit
Out of pure loyalty to the company, he refused to sell. He held it all right through the Sandisk spin out and never sold a share of that either
Just on those two stocks alone, he is up nearly $3M over the last year or so

Slow player like Raleigh, who led ‘25 MLB at mean launch, should launch high but also must have strength to plant enough balls over outfielders & outfield fences to get enough extrabase hits to offset absence of singles.

@sammyersson all this context stuff you keep leaning on, like development time lost to injuries or lack of opportunities on certain teams, is literally exactly why the list is meaningful. top prospects fail to turn into the NHLers ALL THE TIME because of those factors.

The other stupid part of this list is that it, as part of its general inability to take in context, also ignoring that every single one of these players to some extent had severe impacts to their development process pre-draft with Covid that i dont think any model has tracked.

Homeschooled kids are going to rule the business world.
A neighbor mentioned their 17 year old was getting into mowing/landscaping and I love giving young people a chance, so I hired him last summer.
He’s got our yard looking like a home and garden magazine.
Went from just him and a single mower last season to a new truck, new trailer, 2 mowers and 3 employees this year.
Dude is still in “high school”.

@TylerPurcell24 I know plenty of high schoolers with businesses or hobbies that take up just as much time. Have you seen the engineering portfolios of the kind of kids that get into MIT? The startups high school kids start? Kids that play 20 hrs a week of sports? Odd take
