@price_dominie Flocks upgraded their Audit tools this year & have allowed law enforcement to go back & look historically at what officers have done. Using machine learning to flag suspicious search’s to admins. Flock has brought transparency to the LPR space that the other vendors do not have.

Flock outrage is more legitimate than data center outrage. They're meant to stop crime, but everyone knows what they're going to be actually used for: catching people for going a few miles over the speed limit and other petty offenses. Tons of cities have made it a burden to drive as cameras send tickets for every petty traffic offense. People are sick of it. That's why Flock cameras represent to many the nagging nanny state rather than a force for public safety.

I am not sure how Northwestern is in the Big Ten. I’ve been in Chicago for the past 4 days and have seen zero Northwestern shirts, hats, gear, or bars. Just went thru Evanston and didn’t see anything Northwestern-related. Zilch. This is a glorified private high school.

Flock is not the only reason for this but one have highest indicators that a city homicide rate has fallen faster then the national average is LPr deployment.

No Flock-ICE contract exists or is needed—Flock facilitates the platform but sharing decisions stay with locals. Flock states federal sharing is off by default, removed from broad lookups since 2025, and limited with safeguards/labels. Any access requires explicit local approval and must follow applicable laws.

@PeterBernegger Flock does not set the sharing. The PD does that. Cleveland PD was part of the regional Fusion Center and shared the cameras with the center. Flock was not involved in that decision because they play no role in choosing who the cities choose to share their cameras with.

Side door access found in Flock camera units - it gets worse! 🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨 The data collected by the city is shared via that side door - which Flock did not tell the city council about - with a Fusion Center. Fusion Centers combine local, county, state and federal governments. These are way beyond license plate readers, they are profiling us!! This is De facto GPS tracking us individually. Flock lied by omission to the City of Cleveland where the council member(s) had to find out about the side door access on their own - Flock did not tell them. Unless a Cleveland officer broke their protocol and did a search on behalf of ICE (likely a fireable offense) they would not be able to access those cameras

A FOIA request revealed that, in just one town, 3rd parties (credit card companies, cell phone companies, alphabet agencies, retailers, foreign governments, etc...) accessed camera data more than 500,000 times in a 9 week period. "Flock Safety could not guarantee that it's not sharing information with federal agencies." No shit. Several municipalities in CT are "turning off" their Flock cameras in response to what one FOIA request revealed. The problem - the towns don't control/own the cameras nor the data they collect so they can't turn them off. They can instruct their employees to not access them but Flock, a private company funded *almost exclusively* (outside of people like Marc Andreessen & his ilk) by taxpayer dollars, owns the devices and the data. There is a check box in the sharing that blocks all federal agancies from even being able to request sharing.

@hhhtteeee @OrwellDay I get what you’re saying. Flock simply provides the data to police departments but absolves itself from any responsibility from abuse or wrongdoing of the data downstream. Ultimately this debate is a choice between so called safety and privacy and people will choose differently.

LPR has been used to exonerate or rule up thousands of people. No one wants to pay tax dollars it would take to finance what you are suggesting.

@Paradoxicalson @OrwellDay That’s not a Flock did a bad thing. That was likely a miss understanding in the Cleveland PD. They have Flock. There team works in the Fusion center. They shared cameras into the Fusion center. a 30 percent drop in homicides over the two years they had Flock would outweigh this
