moonshot.film is me. My passion for film runs deep, from the silver screen to physical film. Back in 2019 I bought a 16mm print of "Under the Men's Tree" - a film that can't be watched online, but one I wanted to see even if it meant scanning, and restoring it myself.

A new moonshot.film restoration. Under the Men's Tree (1970). Directed by David and Judith MacDougall. A fascinating ethnographic film focusing on a Jie cattle camp in Uganda. youtu.be/FQlBRwvf4uU

@DaoOfZenda Johnny Guitar is a great film. Would love to be able to watch Letty Lynton in HD one of these days...

I don't like to criticise films or works that people put a lot of effort into. Everyone involved should be very proud as they did a good job. It frustrates me a lot that all the good work put in to make it a more timeless film was unwound by the most contemporary script ever.

3. The selfy/vlog-style of storytelling just doesn't work in my view. It adds nothing and is just a vehicle to cram in more self-aware millennial jokes 4. Irregardless of the impressive production value, points 1+2+3 make this a non-timeless contemporary film

Lots of inflated reviews of Project Hail Mary flying around saying it's the best film ever made... It's not a bad film by any means, the production quality is very high. Ultimately though everything good about it is let down by the complete unserious tone of the writing. ...

@amrezy The colour-grader had no choice! - if it was lit poorly when it was shot, there is no saving it after the fact.

@MattRCBrowne @lfg_uk 1,000+ million spent before construction is completely unacceptable. No 'spin' is required to make that look bad.

@lfg_uk Same old trick of looking at big costs & claiming its all nature related, with no mention of the varied public goods the small nature costs secure. More & more people are seeing through your spin

This is desperate spin from lobbyists losing the argument. Environmental mitigation doesnt exceed 0.2% of nuclear costs. In return, protected habitats provide free carbon capture, flood defences & public health benefits. Nature protections are a good deal for all of us

@datnofact Okay but if short focal length = long face long focal length = round face The pic on the left, a professional portrait, would have been a long focal length... But his face is long The selfie is obviously a shorter focal length but the face is round ..Draw your own conclusions

@dystopiangf Only if you believe the Government is the primary driving force behind progress. Why defer progress to politicians and bureaucrats? If you accept the responsibility yourself, you'll find it's preferable to have a remarkably un-radical gov, that conserves so you can innovate

Conservatism is inherently a loser’s ideology. Pressing the breaks will never be more powerful than stepping on the gas. The real human battle is between those with a vision of the future; everyone else is at their mercy

Meta has just replaced WhatsApp for Windows 11 with a web wrapper that consumes up to 2GB of RAM (or up to 1 GB when idle). New WhatsApp for Windows 11 is based on WebView2. WhatsApp has been testing its new web-based app for Windows 11 for some time now, and it's rolling out today. WebView2 is based on Chromium, using the same Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) rendering engine. Do not update WhatsApp in the Microsoft Store.

Would like to see a deeper integration of the Eisenhower matrix in project management tools. Instead of just the one metric of "priority", it could be split into both "urgency" and "importance". cc @linear @todoist
