This is a really interesting movie making failure. Someone thought it sounded cool on paper. They filmed the scene. A CGI artist probably cried themself to sleep for weeks trying to make it work. Ultimately it doesn't (because human anatomy exists and morphing proportions like this is super goofy looking) and they probably didn't have the footage to fix it or time/budget to redo the whole scene in CGI in a way that works. Poor CGI artist's work is immortalized forever, probably to their chagrin.

@THR It speaks to how bad the previous version was that this is even a talking point. Superman 25 isn't perfect, but it's a lot of fun and it gets the character right which is the most important thing.
