@JarvisAeneas What I don’t understand is how people who believe in it (I do!) reject nuclear. We could have massively reduced emissions but just shrugged our shoulders.

I’m starting to think that I’m the only right-winger on this platform who believes that climate change is a real phenomenon.
Not saying it hasn’t been exaggerated in the media, but I just don’t see how you can wholesale reject it.
RS Archer@archer_rs
Apparently climate change is a myth.

Thank you! It's quite a story!!!

@realMaalouf I highly recommend ‘White Gold’ by @GilesMilton1 This is the forgotten story of the million white Europeans, snatched from their homes and taken in chains to the great slave markets of North Africa to be sold to the highest bidder. Ignored by their own governments. ⛓️💥

Politics is volatile. Less than 15 years ago the SNP looked an unstoppable force.

Dining alone, I still like to have clever and entertaining guests at my table.
As a fine example of how to manage that, here are @hogster & historian Prof Donald Rayfield with a good humoured chat about prisoners of war - up to the Crimean War (1853-1856).

@ArmandDAngour Very common. And they cannot read cursive. I realize now how a society could just lose the ability to read, say, Linear B overnight.

Another delightful episode from @hogster (and the promise of two more!)
Especially interesting after hearing a paper about Genovese treatment of Pisan prisoners in the 13-14th centuries.

@dbdegn @Sargon_of_Akkad Must be difficult to run the criminal justice system in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan!

How many Muslims were on the jury?
Billy Moore@billymooreAPBD
Case discharged the jury has failed to reach a verdict!!

@agraybee @ATabarrok Roman Helmet Guy meets the Greeks. It’s Corinth all over again 😢

@wagglethorpe @jpodhoretz It’s not just that. Everyone in it is completely mad.
English

@proffwolff It’s not. It’s a novel where everyone does the stupidest thing imaginable while the reader shouts ‘Don’t do it’. Then there is some material about the Great Reform Act presumably left over from an exam she was studying for. And don’t get me started on Silas Marner!
English

@IonaItalia I feel they took it to and beyond the limits of reader patience. It seems a solitary view however.
English

@hogster Doing incredibly stupid things—that is the nature of being human!

Unpopular opinion: this isn't identical to my list—where is Tom Jones?! But it's a good list, actually.
John Podhoretz@jpodhoretz
The Guardian’s panel has chosen the 100 greatest novels of all time and has put BELOVED second. That is among the most ludicrous aesthetic judgments in the annals of Western culture. Embarrassing tokenism.
