@allhailtwit I started posting Haikus. I thought people might be interested but I got a single like on a good day. Duly humiliated, I gave up. Maybe I need to headline it ‘BREAKING!’ 🤔
English

@LucastaHonoria Well not to worry - the brilliant Siege of Krishnapur and the extremely funny A Fraction of the Whole are bound to be there!
English

@hogster I just found out that I already have The Wager in my library, and both Broken Threads and The Wolf Den are not available for US listeners!
English

I have 7 audiobook credits that are going to expire in a month if I don't use them. Looking for recommendations! @catamaran1066 ? @hogster ? @suzania ? @jembloomfield ? @franzsherbert ?
English

@DAaronovitch Well my point won't really land until he loses. We can catch up then.
English

@hogster If you want to make a point, why not just make it?
English

@Pipolinna @arisroussinos Irrespective it’s a cracking read. And the question of the British gods and how to find them a central theme!
English

@hogster @arisroussinos Exactly. Beyond Arthur, there's nothing else.

Everyone in Britain is heir to an extremely complex & ancient Celtic mythological cycle of native gods & heroes, just like Ireland, but set in the country in which they live, yet the British educational system actively ignores it. I doubt 1/10000 children could name a British god

@Aella_Girl @selentelechia @BretDevereaux is your man for Roman military history. And Greek. And in Lord of the Rings.
English

I got much more interested in war after going through the history of rome, where I got invested in the general plot, and then it was like 'oh shit is this guy I like with this army actually gonna be able to defeat this other guy" and then you can look at the battle diagrams to see the choices he made etc. After that I started getting a handle for how battles work and this made them more interesting to me in general
English

@rmathematicus @Kekius_Sage Actually this is quite interesting. Can you use the angles of the sun’s rays to prove the earth is round? Geometry not my strongest subject!
English
@Kekius_Sage The Sun passes under the Earth during the night

In this war without direction, no one has a clue -- not those who think the Islamic Republic is “toast”, nor those who admit they don’t know who they’re dealing with. 👇

@arisroussinos @Pipolinna Cannot recommend Bernard Cornwell's Arthur trilogy too highly!!
English

@Pipolinna It’s an entire insular civilisational heritage squished into provincial Welsh interests (Wales has an ancient, extremely rich literary, poetic and mythological corpus, set across modern Britain, everyone in England chooses to ignore)
English

@arisroussinos Do giants count? Gogmagog (spellchecked to Tomato). I think because the British believe God speaks English there isn’t much demand for earlier versions.
English

@WingsScotland @Biteyalegs I’m not sure it’s economically feasible what with banks imposing their usual covenants before allowing the equity to take anything out.
English

@WingsScotland @MacmillanArc More to the point how does it make sense? The PE house run a business into bankruptcy but at the same time exit at a huge profit?
English

@rmathematicus I really shouldn’t be looking forward to this as much as I am.
English

The appeal of polyamory, for many journalists, lies in the thought of having more than one guaranteed reader.

BREAKING: The number of journalists writing about polyamory has now surpassed the number of people engaging in it. Congratulations to all.

@jamespriceglos @LBC @holland_tom Hardly throwing him under the bus. If you listened to the podcast, you’d realise they actually speak to each other like this all the time. He’s said nothing that he wouldn’t say to him on the podcast 👍🏻
English

@LucastaHonoria Have pity on me. I just finished recording a podcast with David Parnell. Almost every name I mentioned he then pronounced differently. I am hoping is a British/American thing but I suspect it’s just because I don’t know any better. 😕
English

@JeremiahDJohns I'd like to see the whole speech. Using the term 'antichrist' seems weird but I'd like to hear him explain what he means. Do you have a link?
English

@Dostoevskyquot I tried The Brothers Karamazov. It certainly felt like forever. 😕
