@richardpbacon A devastating failure of US intelligence. The school was within yards of an Iranian military base. Was it placed there as a human shield ?

This number received huge media coverage, but was estimating something very different from what was claimed. Personally, I believe that much of the benefit would have come from starting 'advisory' lockdown on March 9th. But I suspect this will become a 'zombie' statistic...

OSR questioning the Covid Inquiry's claim that modelling 'established' 23,000 fewer deaths if mandatory lockdown imposed a week earlier on March 16th. In fact this estimate is not only very uncertain, but also assumes voluntary measures were brought forward a week, to March 9th

We have today written to the Covid-19 inquiry regarding the presentation of statistical modelling in the Executive Summary of its Module 2 report👇 osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/correspondence…

@CharlotteCGill Let's consider. There are 55 majority Muslim countries but so many muslim migrants avoid them and head for Britain. So, despite rampant Islamophobia, they prefer Britain. Hmmmmm...

@ClarkeMicah I don't know if this works for ancient Latin. One of the ways of working out old English prononciation is by looking at poems. Rhymes are the clue.

@MbKryts @wickedtraveller If he knew it contravened the rules and he did it deliberately then it's cheating. I think whether he gained an advantage is irrelevant.

@Gaynotqueer1 Note to hetero males. Hugging another male must be very brief. And ONLY when you are both under the influence of alcohol. Similarly for "I love you". Only when drunk and in a phrase similar to: "I love you you silly b****rd".

Russell Findlay is right to call on John Swinney to scrap these soft justice guidelines. The killer of Keith Rollinson didn’t spend a single night in a real jail, instead serving time in a charity-run unit with a swimming pool and courtyard, and could now be released early. This is the result of SNP quangos shaping the justice system. What message does that send to potential offenders? It’s complete nonsense. #FMQs

So far I've spent my 2025 as I mean to go on- surrounded by multiple hounds, brilliant pals and a kilo of Dundee cake 🤪 Hoping that this year brings lots of good things to us all, wherever and whoever we are 💕

@JohnPaulMarney @LeoKearse One report I read suggested that the EU and UK would be subject to counter sanctions if they tried to stop the blatant tax dodging. The multinationals have great influence on US politicians. Campaign contributions, plum jobs after retirement etc.

@hopefield3 @LeoKearse Very true. Now that Germany and France are facing severe problems, I suspect the Irish tax haven days may soon be curtailed by their masters in Brussels.

Steve Coogan attacks the “racist” right while inadvertently validating their argument: that foreign heritage limits British identity. “I am a part of the Irish diaspora, I’ve always felt...antipathy towards the British flag" (Ironically, the Irish people I know feel very aligned with Britain. Maybe Coogan truly is British; only Brits have such disdain for their country)

@LeoKearse @JohnPaulMarney Ireland was very poor for 60 years after independence. It does well now because it's a tax haven for tax dodging multinationals which "export" profits earned in the UK and EU to Dublin. Ireland's corporation tax is set to specifically encourage this fraud.

@LeoKearse @JohnPaulMarney Scotland's trade is much more intertwined with the rest of the UK than UK trade was connected to the EU. The subsequent economic hit (from independence) would be much harder.

From 2013: Thought for the Day Most "animal advocates" seem to spend a great deal of time coming up with all sorts of positions that have one thing is common: they all reject veganism as a moral baseline. Humans and nonhumans are equal in that all sentient beings have a moral right not to used exclusively as resources. No sentient being should be property. And recognition of that one moral right compels us to conclude that veganism is a moral imperative. Any other position is a speciesist sell out. HowDoIGoVegan.com

We all welcome that Homicides are down in London! However that’s just ONE crime; How about 200 Gangs/County Lines all armed; Rape reported every hour; Robbery; Knife Crime; Mobile Phone Theft & Rolex Watch’s; Shoplifting ASB & Many Communities living in fear? No Go Areas etc Any Comment?👇🤷‍♂️
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

Cleaner air, better transport, vibrant culture - and now the lowest homicide rate in recorded history. The facts speak for themselves. London’s story is one of resilience, ambition and optimism - not the decline some would have you believe ⬇️

I thought it couldn’t be true a new Glasgow housing development has streets named Radiology St and Virology Grove. Turns out I was wrong. The houses are on the site of the old Ruchill Hospital hence the “medically inspired” names. Glad they kept away from Oncology and Pathology.
