@trueclausefour The most expensive council tax per month is about £400. You’re just making stuff up.

Kemi Badenoch claimed 4k a month council tax on her Grade 2 listed Farmhouse on her expenses Nice if you can get it..Not so nice when taxpayers are paying the bill..
Kemi Badenoch@KemiBadenoch

A council job with a four-day working week for five days’ pay. Nice if you can get it. Not so nice when taxpayers are paying the bill. We deserve full-time services for full-time pay. The @Conservatives will ban this ridiculous policy and get Britain working again.

@MarkTodd_pol It was funded from general taxation and regulated out of business tha they could be doing. They ended up being bad at it, not because they can’t do the job but because the nationalised part is onerously expensive.

Congrats to the Lib Dems & Tories for privatising Royal Mail leading to first class stamp price rising from 60p (2013) to £1.80 today. A price rise of 200% in 13 years. Privatisation of essentials really pays for shareholders & senior managers not the public.

@ox_anna29 ‘Austerity’ is living in your means, university fees haven’t tripled, Brexit was opposed by the Conservative Party, 11% inflation was in the pandemic and on the Russian assault on Ukraine. You are still a young adult.

My whole young adult life has been under a Conservative government and all I got was austerity, tripled uni fees, Brexit, 11% inflation and Liz Truss. Respectively you guys can do one.

Young people want a house, a car, a good job. They realise only the Conservatives are going to really deliver for them - in a way that isn’t all pantomime and theatre. That’s why young people like myself are backing the Conservatives - we want to make something of our lives!

@richardpbacon @MarkSeddon1962 I think it’s in response to the consistent rocket strikes by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon. Imagine what the world would say if Hezbollah were launching rocket strikes on the UK… what would we do?

How is this justified? Where is the international outrage? The UN says 370,000 children have had to flee their homes. Imagine what the world would be saying if 370,000 American, Israeli or British children had had to flee their homes. Why do some human lives matter so much less

Horrifying scenes from Beirut #Lebanon today. Nearly 100 Israeli airstrikes in less than 10 minutes, in broad daylight, with rush hour traffic heard in background. At least 89 killed…

@LostHistory9 Oh lord… if that’s the reason I’ll defenestrate. The obsession with ‘canon’ is so new and so perverse. Unfinished Tales and the Silmarillion can exist equally truthfully in a mythology. This is an extreme example but all four gospels in the Bible do not tell the exact same tale

High King Fëanor - Alpha Chad of Middle-earth
Sitting here contemplating why so many accounts, some belonging to Tolkien Society members, are coming out and saying Tolkien's work isn't canon. Extremely suspicious. I'd be willing to bet we are getting a RoP trailer soon....

Margaret Thatcher died 13 years ago today. Everything broken in Britain comes from Thatcher. Filthy rivers. Ripoff electricity. Landlords. Trillions in Oil/gas stolen. No Social Housing. All Thatcher's poison.

@Jenny_1884 It doesn’t even make sense. A ‘boomer’ could be 62 or 80… How were the lines drawn? It’s a continuum, people are born all the time - they don’t arrive every 20 years or so in one batch.

Who actually came up with these weird names Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials & Gen Z? Why can’t everyone just be known as either young or old like it used to be. Why do we need to have strange names.

@SwailesRuth I’m assuming you weren’t a teacher - because that’s not how teacher pay works at all. If it was as a TA you would have to have been covering after school activities. If you were in admin it is possible but a school prepared to enforce 10 hour working days would be singularly odd

Compressed working weeks are a fairly common in the private sector and help working parents and carers. I used to work in primary schools, so I’ll try to explain it in a way you might understand. A 40 hour working week can be 4x10 hour days or 5x 8 hour days. I hope this helps.

@DuncanHenry78 OMFG - the ‘homo sapiens’ thing - exact same. Primary school Nathan was year above so I’m 9 or 10 and he’s 10 or 11. He said “Are you calling me a homo” and I said “A homo sapien? Yes.” He was not pleased. Same story. Similar time maybe 🤷‍♂️

@hor22189 I had queer. Some other words too. Never gay. Homo never bothered me as I’d say “are you not Homo sapiens” and 9 times out of 10 they’d say “definitely not”. 😬 Puff/poofta I never got either. It doesn’t really work on a big lump like me.

Josh talks twaddle. Even in the summary it’s nonsense. - reinforces a hierarchy of belonging: no we just don’t want to be associated with degenerated because we are gay. Homosexuality isn’t degeneracy. Plenty of what “queer theory” promotes - IS - privileges proximity to straightness: again no, that’s another faffy way to say “but all the degenerates must stick together”. See above. - marginalises anyone who cannot (dubious) or will not (yeah that’s more like it) meet its terms: again, I’m perfectly happy with and in fact advocate FOR marginalising degenerates. Degenerate (noun): “an immoral or corrupt person.” And that IS what queer theory enables and celebrates. At its core queer theory seeks to break down all social norms and obliterate morality (short version). Being a gay man and being moral are not incompatible. Just because irrational people believe homosexuality is immoral is not an excuse to chuck morality in the bin and embrace every single deviation from the norm even when that deviation is immoral and/or corrupt. Although I’d actually say the split here is pro social vs anti social. And I’m pro social. And I’m gay, not “queer”
The Advocate@TheAdvocateMag

Opinion: A recent Wall Street Journal op-ed divorcing "gay" from "queer" people reinforces a hierarchy of belonging that privileges proximity to straightness, rewards conformity, and marginalizes anyone who cannot or will not meet its terms, argues Josh... advocate.com/opinion/wall-s…

@Tinebobagain @RickyEaston2 Exactly - everyone knows that literally it is a payment from the state and so a benefit - like child benefit brought out at the same time. But it is paid for under a different scheme. Not Income Tax but NI. And you have to pay NI (i.e. work) to get it. It is not a ‘hand-out’.

@hor22189 @RickyEaston2 Semantics. They want to call it a benefit so it’s easier to take away. You wouldn’t call a private pension a benefit. Thats how pensions were presented to the working class. You TOO can have a guaranteed income when you finish your working life.

When boomers die, their estate will go to their children & grandchildren. Minus IT - abolish. When I was growing up, working class people didn’t own their homes, so we rarely got an inheritance. We just had to pay for funerals. Are the gimme generation factoring this in?
