Connery actually was a former body builder and karate black belt, his athleticism is kinda what set Bond apart from the typical Hollywood hero. He and Burt Lancaster were really the first actors who seemed like they actually could kick someone’s ass before the workout revolution

What strikes me every time I rewatch the opening of Heat (1995) is how professional everything feels. No flashy dialogue. No unnecessary exposition. Just a group of people who know exactly what they're doing. Michael Mann understood that competence can be just as fascinating as action.
